Anyone in Nebraska having luck with muskrats? Because of the flooding i can only get to a cattle that runs into a swallow creek. Only caught one this week. I would think if theres one running through there than there would be more but maybe Im wrong.

Never got to them in the fall, because it got cold too soon, and I wanted to try chasing them in the spring this season. But then it stayed cold too long, and when it finally unfroze, they all washed out to the ocean with the flood. I'm done for the season, selling my fur tomorrow.

I guess what im wondering is...if there was one than there would have to be more? Im the only one trapping that pond\creek. Do they live in colonies like beavers often do? I've only been water trapping for a few seasons now and they are always in March. Surely a muskrat would not be living by its lonesome i wouldnt think

You have to think of rats differently, more like voles and mice. They are an aquatic vole. Wherever there is habitat, they will happen. Regardless of flooding.

I have been catching rats regularly AWAY from the flood waters. A washed out beaver dam on a small creek will have a few return (if you have ever torn out a beaver dam with an excavator then you know what I am talking about) easy to harvest..... the mike.
