Do not know about matching a cicada, but check out the troutspot.com. I have been happy with their flies.

I should think any grass hopper or hair bug would be close enough. Fish ain't even as smart as 'possums. You’ve never fished for pressured fish in clear water then!!

appreciate the replies.
krispcritter, I kinda like your idea (you get the "buzz" that way, too!), but I doubt the fish wardens in the fly fishing only sections would approve. If the fish wardens question you, just tell them you're "fly fishing". Those flies have a soft bite, would be easy to have one on and not know it.

Not much pressure on this spring branch. I wasn't there that day but it's one of my usual places to practice. Were they fishing for coon bait....I mean trout?

Were they fishing for coon bait....I mean trout? yeah that's Roaring River State Park. one of Mo. four trout parks, but when I lived back east opening day of trout looked about the same. Pressure is a myth unless it is total C&R the fish that gets caught has no memory of it and doesn't pass any fear on to the off spring it never has.

Not much pressure on this spring branch. I wasn't there that day but it's one of my usual places to practice. In my experience, if you're not waiting for fish to come in from the lake, and instead it's spring time and you're just waiting for opening day.... watch what the old men do.... and skip it. The browns at least will be so spooked you'll have wasted your morning. And there will be enough chew spit per square inch to raise the water level. Wait 3 days and you'll have the place back to yourself again. But one year I did see people catch a lot on opening day.
