this happened in tx
………………………………………………………...
my neighbors pit bull and another dog that looks part german shepard did this to my grand daughters miniature pony on tuesday. pit bulls head had blood all over it. my wife chased both dogs off no question what did it. pony was still alive at that point. guy is making it right money wise and already shot both dogs. no clue why anybody would keep one for a pet. this pony had never been cut. it was a stallion before that dog got it. it was on a lead to graze the green grass that's coming back. got tangled in it trying to fight back and went down.

I hope Gary is being sarcastic.

That is so sad for the pony. 4 months ago one of my goats got run into a hog wire fence by somebody's dogs. Even the best animal can't defend itself on a rope.

I understand why some people think they can get a pit bull cross and turn it into a good dog, but it just isn't possible. A lot of the same folks have made the same quality of decisions in their personal lives.

Sorry about the pony.

Pete

Had my experience with pits and a baby calf penned up in shed
. Danny at least your neighbor was smart enough to do the right thing with the dogs. A lot of the owners aren't smart enough to see the writing on the wall when it happens.

I know several people in the area that constantly stick up for the "falsely maligned" pits. They get them as rescue dogs, brag about how gentle they are and some even keep them around their small children.

Some of them are tough guys who enjoy the notoriety of owning pits, all of them are "low-intelligence" people.

Eh...wot?

There's a young couple about 20 miles from me that own a pit thst almost killed the their baby. It was in the hospital a couple weeks, had a couple of surgeries and will carry the scars for the rest of its life. The people didn't think it was the dogs fault so the hide it when the social workers come for the monthly visits.

Geeze Danny..
I'd be so POed Glad the guy is making it right but that still hard deal. There are people i my neighbor hood with pits and I carry now when walking my dogs. I worked with a guy that is a part of that Pit bull rescue thing. He was always fostering dogs until they were put back out with new people. I never trusted them dogs just heard to many bad story's.

They are the one animal I would shoot on sight if I see it anywhere on my property.

guy raised both those dogs from puppies. I think it hurt him as bad to shoot them as it hurt my granddaughter to be told her pony was dead. (she didn't see it thank goodness) I could see using pits as catch dogs when hog hunting. they seem to be good at it. but the dogs need to be in a kennel when not being set on a hog. I really don't see any other reason to have one.

No need to have those monsters in kennels or anywhere else. Pits are ticking time bombs, the bad thing is it usually isn't the owner that suffers. Every account is always the owners couldn't believe ( insert what attack) their dogs that they had raised from puppies did. At least those 2 didn't chew a babies face off, pits seem to like that. Well it's about time for our resident pit apologist to show up.

I hunt with guys who use pits as catch dogs. Funny thing about them is they act and behave completely different than pet pits . I believe it's cause they have a job and an outlet for their aggression.

They're also treated almost like a firearm . On leads in the truck until it's time to go to work , back on leads after the job is done , and kenneled at home. I won't keep one even though I know our crew could use another bulldog.

Many years ago when my older brother was still running rescue calls. He went to a dog attack call said was the biggest mess he ever seen. Young gal about 20 was visiting back at parents home and they had a German Shepard. So she wasn't totally unfamiliar to the dog. She was feeding french fries or something and it went nuts. Started ripping her to shreds. Her younger brother tried to pull the dog off her and got bite up some and mom couldn't stop it. Mom called 911 boy got a gun shot the dog off his sister. I think first cop that got there shot and finished dog off. Dog was dead when my brother got there as a medic. He said it was like a horror picture how bad that gal was ripped up..so it isn't always pits. I knew another guy had side of his face took off my Saint Bernard.
Did go to a medical call once myself years back. Guy walking a bit bull on a leash. Passed a guy on side walk dog jump up grabbed guy almost in the crotch. Just one bite didn't get him real bad. But all he was doing was walking past on public side walk..Lot of dog stories out there.

That right there is what I would say is being a responsible owner while there are too many owners that are ignorant of their dogs potential.

Many different breeds of working dog are turned into pet dogs. Some work as pets, yet others need the actual work to keep them from finding mischief or causing bad problems. I have never used pits, but have had terriers for years. I seen the jacks turned into pet dogs, and it doesn't work if they don't get to hunt or work to use up their aggression in a proper way. I now have pats and have yet to see them go bad, but expect if they were kept solely as a pet or left to their own doings it would happen. I will add all cattle dogs to the list of bad pets. I have seen to many of them run free to chase the neighbors cattle at will and bite the legs of everyone that they see. If folks want a pet, get a pet breed. If they want a working dog, by all means get a working dog but use and handle it responsibly. That is my 2 cents.
