Does anyone have one or know what they are? My sister in Indiana said she has a few of them around and they tell the weather better then the weatherman. I have seen one at some point in my life but took her to bring it up to remember them.

Here is how the work.
The man with the umbrella comes forward when rain or cloudy weather is likely. The girl with flowers comes forward in fairer weather.

Yep that is it and there are different scenes of the house but all work the same way. My sister she they work very well and she has 5 of them around their home. Lol She like stuff like that anyway.

I also heard if it's gone... tornado likely.

Had one in our house , when I was a little guy. Remember saying the little girl is out, going to be a nice day. There is a string , that goes to the house top, that can be adjusted. I would think they are affected by barometric pressure or humidity. We have , a liquid barometer , in our house, believe, they were used on ships. If the water in the spout is high, you have bad weather. low pressure.. old243

Mine needs water. Have you guys ever seen a weather stick? In fair weather the stick points upward but droops downward as it senses inclement weather moving in.

I have some of the weather sticks hanging around. Bought for me as gifts.

My Grandma had the weather house and a liquid barometer that was a hand blown glass swan. The water was colored green and would rise up high in the neck predicting a weather change. Haven't seen either in years.

My Dad had a swan pretty accurate nowdays if I want rain I just start trapping

That's why i never wanted to go fishing in anyplace dry. I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing I caused a flash flood. Only thing I can figure is it must be a sportsmen/women thing. If I have to work it's nice out.

Looks like the one I have, my Grandmother brought it over from the mother country, Appenzell, Switzerland.

If they had this kind of high tech gear at the tv weatherguessers , they would get better accuracy in their weather reports / predictions. But pulling cards out of a pack and looking into the bottom of empty tea cups is cheaper

They're pretty neat. I'd never heard of it until a friend gave us one.
