My wife and I took off to my northern line and collected some Chaga. Ended up with about 35 lbs of it.

Anyone else collect it? A guy I know had a lung removed and wasn't given a good prognosis. He started taking Chaga and baffled the doctors when it was gone.

I've never even heard of it.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Google it. Essentially a miracle fungus. Known as black gold in some circles. Grows only on birch trees that are over fifty years old, and only in northern climates. Canada, Maine,..Russia..

It is generally agreed that it has a level of antioxidants unsurpassed by any other food. Considered to be cancer fighting and anti inflammatory among other things. It's actually tough to find a negative comment anywhere about jt.

Figured I'd give it a try.

To me it looks like a fungus growing on a tree. I don't think I have ever seen Chaga growing in Iowa. Maybe I have but did not know what it was.

It is a fungus growing on a tree. But only a specific kind. I am not sure if it grows in Iowa or not. It is starting to take a massive hold on the Heath food industry. I see online prices anywhere from 20 bucks for 54 grams, to 40 a pound.

It is a fungus growing on a tree. Often times it is found on River Birch or White Birch trees. It takes a long time to grow to a large size and it is highly sought after by those that use it for medicinal benefits and those that sell it for a good sum!
Found here in Wisconsin but there are a lot of folks looking for it as well!

I am pretty sure I could fill a pickup with it given enough time. Maybe I should shut my mouth and start selling it eh?!

Lol. No one really seems to harvest it here. It's still very unknown. It will come though, and be decimated soon enough. You are only supposed to harvest half of it and leave the rest to regenerate. Takes a while, but it will regrow. Once everyone and their mother starts looking for it, it will go fast and regulation will need to step in. Another good thing is that you need a ladder to get it, and people are generally lazy lol

I collected a fair amount in Vermont this year. I enjoy the tea as much as a good cup of coffee. Careful not to over harvest. It takes years to grow even a small amount.

I been harvesting Chaga for years in Vermont ,me and the wife drink it every nite. Kinda hard to find but I get enough every winter to last me the year. Im always on the lookout when im deer huntin . You want to get it after the leaves fall off and before the sap runs in spring. Yellow Birch ,White Birch and Black Birch. It takes a long time to grow big enough to harvest.

I am told the tree has to be at least fifty, and better, eighty years old to grow Chaga. Good to hear people use it and like it.

I simmer about 4 hours, strain out the nuggets through a strainer and keep it in the fridge for up to 4 days or so. Just a bit of honey in each cup for me.

Boco, if you look at other sites, it's about the same as castor! Seems odd to sell something you just went out and collected. Maybe it's not weird...I am just going to keep this for myself

I see lots of people selling it at the pow wows.Never really checked it out.
People pick and sell all kinds of stuff.Blueberries is big,but seasonal.I guess you could sell chaga year round as long as you had a big crop to access.
I looked for it on the birch around here.It seems to be non existant,or else I don't know how to recognize it.

Can someone post a good pic of it on a tree itself? It isnt where the sap accumulates on the side of the tree and hardens??
