I know what they SAY their stance is,the problem is they're very ,for lack of a better term, wishy washy. Our DNR doesn't have a very strong track record when push comes to shove against the anti's.The example I'll relate here is back a few years ago when they thought they'd do referendum on a wolf season. The wording came out for a "hunting"season, and at first most people didn't notice the wording. As the campaign wore on some noticed it and started asking questions,DNR was silent. After what could be best described as a lackluster attempt we lost. The DNR started to get flak over their performance,or lack thereof, and one of the questions asked was, when did the language offering hunting AND TRAPPING change? And who changed it?Who was responsible? To this day they have not addressed this. What has come out was supposedly our last governor didn't like trapping and quietly had them change the wording at the last minute. No idea if this is true or not because no one in the dept. has come forward. If that is true, they're saying no one within the dept.had the cajones to come forward and say "hey, wait a minute".It makes me think that decision came from within and they don't want to come forward with it.I know one thing for sure, there's a big difference in how the dept.handles itself in these situations with the public from a decade ago, they seem to be very sensitive to the non hunting (read-anti's) opinions and political clout. If they're really serious about this issue they need to stand tall and grow themselves a set and quit the politically correct act.And with the current liberal governor that was voted in in November I don't see it happening.
