North To Cree Lake by A.L. Karras

Great book about trapping in the far north. Not a how to book, but a story of adventure and hardships faced by 2 brothers trapping in 1930’s. Re reading for the umpteenth time. First beaver they ever saw was 1 of 4 they shot in a lodge with a 22! Received $80 for those 4 beavers. If you get a chance pick up a copy it’s a good un.

$80 in 1930 would be $1218.69 in 2018. That would be nice!

Own the book. Read it a million times. In the 1920s, another guy, Fred darbyshire, went up north. First animal he caught was a silver fox. He got 450 dollars for the one fox!!! I know once the Karras brothers caught on, they raked in some good money.

I read it twice a year at least.

He wrote another book, face the north wind. I cannot for the life of me find a copy though.

Excellent books. Fascinating how they did what they did. These were real men. Today’s men would never be able to do what they did.

My S. O. got me this book right after we started dating. I had read it before, but I have read it several times since.

yes what those fellas did to trap and even survive is unreal. Sleeping at night with nothing more than a wool blanket on some spruce boughs next to an open fire is what sticks out in my mind the most for some reason.
