I use a pair of gen 3p+ goggles for looking around with a 3X magnifier and I have an ATN Ares 6X Gen4 scope on an AR .223 and it is amazing for the shooting part. I have never even had to use the Infared on the scope. It gets enough light from stars to work and if there is any moon it is like daytime. I have an ATN 5x20 day/night scope also but it is worthless at night without IR and then you can run into reflection problems. The nice thing about the day night scopes is they record the shot on video so you can share it with friends. Thermal is nice because you can see through brush or trees to locate coyotes but you have to spend big bucks to get crisp detail. You might shoot someones german sheperd instead of a coyote. JMHO The trick around here is put a dead hog out and aim a driveway motion sensor over it and get a beep inside when a coyote is on it and slip out with night vision and save some fawns. The coyotes were so bad on my farm they were tag teaming my dog 20 feet from the house.

Wicked Lights 3 color LED mounted on the gun with a forend on/off rheostat switch. Variable intensity, 3 color red green white that maintain the point of aim, variable from spot to flood.
Same light with different switch arrangement as a handheld for scanning.
Also very similar as a headlamp for scanning and walking.
It picks up eye shine at greater than 500 yards. Humidity can affect the vision. Can see clearly to shoot beyond 300 yards.

hunt at night as much as most and don't think all that fancy stuff is needed but to each his own.always fun to watch a newbie that doesn't think he can see far enough almost stare at the ground.start to shake then you see eyes and they go holy cow, didn't think the light was goin half that far.to me,too much light educates way more animals than people realize.
territory or landscape has a lot to do with it also so remember i'm in the hills and farm country of northern pa.

It's too bad night vision goggles are so expensive, Flipper. I wonder if there's any good cost effective type night vision (glasses or a scope modifier device) that would help a coyote hunter, even if doesn't provide top notch night vision, but at least brightens things up.
