Just curious if any of you guys have used the 22 cal Barnes TSX bullets in your varmint guns, and how they performed.I have not used the TSX bullets yet in any caliber but did use the Barnes "X" bullets when they first came out in a 257 weatherby and they seemed to do the job quite well.I have since sold the 257( not that i would use it for coyotes),but i was impressed at the few coyotes I did shoot with the 257 and barnes "X" bullets.Thinking 22-250 and 220 swift here-so velocities would be up there as well.Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated

You like sewing ?? I run them on the warm side in my 223 and they will leave a good size exit on a hog and deer ... I would imagine they are devastating on a song dog. If you just want them dead, go for it. If you want to keep the fur, look at other options.

The tsx bullets I’ve shot seem to like a faster twist barrel. They perform fine on large game. I’ve not had huge exit holes but they do exit almost every time. In my 223 I shoot 70gr tsx bullets in a 1in 8” twist and they have pencil size holes coming and going, not the best blood trail(small diameter hole) but deer won’t make it 80yds before piling up. I shoot 50gr in my 22-250 with a 1 in 14” twist. Performance has been the same. In my 270 I have been shooting 130gr tsx with satifacory results again not a huge exit hole but the bullets have exited on all but one shot. That was a deer at 120yds facing me. Shot through center chest in front and bullet stopped just under the skin on his left butt cheek in a 170lb buck.

Thanks guys-keep the results coming.I would have thought that being solid copper bullet that the exit holes would be smaller for sure.Just trying to be forward thinking here with something to shoot coyotes with at high velocities where the bullets don't explode and blow huge holes. Not that I am scared to sew up coyotes-I have done literally thousands-but I would prefer not to LOL.

Well I was hoping to hear from some other coyote shooters on here about their finding using the barnes TSX 22 cal bullets-I didn't hear anything for a while so I thought I would post my findings so far.

Shooting a 45 grain Barnes TSX HP bullet at just over 4000 f.p.s.-and so far I am absolutely sold on these bullets for shooting coyotes! Smaller sample size so far-like 7 coyotes-but absolutely no blow ups of any kind and they hammer the coyotes hard.Have yet to recover a bullet of course but hoping to get one back sooner or later. The texas heart shot kills are absolutely devastating-zero damage- like no blown up back ends like soft points or ballistic tip bullets produce.Bullets have exited out the front of each animal-devastation inside is really good-again no blow out holes. They shot exceptional out of my rifle.Still interested in hearing from anyone else using these 22 cal bullets and their results.

22-250, 53 gr. Barnes tsx, 36.5 gr. Varget used here. Just like anything, hit bone, need needle, miss bone, small hole on each side, sideways or length wise on a coyote. Very accurate.
Next favorite is the 40 gr. Nosler Balistic tip slowed to around 3600 or a little more. If you have to reach out there, the 50 gr. might be better. Idea with the Noslers is to have only one hole, two holes can be messy. Sometimes one in and a little shrap metal on off side. The Barnes is more consistent.
