Ok so I don’t have a lot of money to spend on traps, I do have 5 of them. I have set them out and made a cubbie. How do I know if the cubbie is made right? Can I make a cubbie out of fence? What’s the best way to make a cubbie?

A good start would be the target animal not being able to access the bait from anywhere but from the front via crossing over the trap. Bed your trap solid and lightly camouflage. Provide a stepping stick parallel to the trap to allow for target animal to place full weight directly on trap pan. Use a visual object like a feather or flagging to draw target animal towards your cubby. Best of luck and keep at it!

You can learn a lot or at least get some good ideas for free by looking at youtube video's by say typing in, " How do I make a cubby set for raccoon"? Or whatever your target animal is. Just ask what is the best way to trap whatever and start digesting all the information and make a plan for next season. Sounds like your season might be out now.

James, if you share the county or city near you there might be folks on here close enough to help you. Five traps are a good start, depending on what kind and size the traps are, and on what the target is.

you'd be wise to join your state trapping assn, Google it, then contact officers off their website asking for a mentor to ride along with.
You will learn TONS plus the laws in your state.
THEN you will also be in the loop of Trappers Ed Classes and meets and fur sales/pick ups and conventions and attend ALL U CAN.
This shows guys you are serious and could make a good student, too....thus shorten your learning curve by decades.
It sure worked for me several yrs ago and could work for anyone.

The problem with utube is it does NOT take into acct laws in your state, like exposed feathers/fur, jaw spreads, shock springs needed, etc. I've know a few guys that got tickets from this very thing, since they did not know a set was illegal in their state, but not in the state where the utuber posted.

ALSO, some states have a FB group, if ya FB any.
