Hello everyone I'm new to trapping and I'm in the process of buying traps. I am interested in you guys opinions on the BMI 1.75 trap for coyotes. How well do you think they'll hold up.

I don't have any experience with the BMI traps but if you are targeting coyotes I would at least go with the a #2 size trap. I'm not sure what's drawing you to the BMI brand but if that's what you like take a look at their 2-K-9 wolfer trap. That would probably be a better coyote trap than the 1.75 unless there is a jaw restriction size in Ohio.

BMI K9 Wolfer is a great trap. I usually run MB-550s. But I still have 5 dz of the k9 wolfers . Caught a coyote today on line, in a post set. I lke the BMI because its small, powerful, and easy to bed. I put MB style stainless dogs on mine. Only other problem, you will have with BMI is = IF you get a big, bad, hard fighting coyote on a short staked chain. You will have the occassional bent base. But nothing you cant straighten out easyly

Thanks guys the reason I am looking at BMI is that they are made pretty close to me.I thought it would be good to support a local company. I'm thinking the 1.75 as a more universal trap because the farms around here have more fox and coons than coyotes. But there is coyotes and if I get some I want to be able to hold them.

The folks at BMI said they were coming out with a 1.75 offset version a while back with Wolfer type jaws. I would inquire about those before you purchase.

If I remember correctly, The BMI #2K9 is the same size as their 1.75s only 4 coiled with thickened offset jaws.
