Got some used (heavily rusted) number one's the other day and curious if anyone can tell me about them. this one is a Victor and the below picture is the stamp on the base.

Mostly likely a Trappers mark to identify his trap. The stamping probably has some significance to the trapper.

The stamping is too irregular to be a factory stamp.

The other Trap that is barely in the picture is most likely a Blake & Lamb,

No I did it. Bought a couple dozen in a bucket most where Victors and are on floats now. All of them where rusted bad to the point the jaws where seized. Cleaned them up replaced some parts on the newer victors and back in service. Was curious about these three for various reasons.

For any traps bought as collectable what's the acceptable cleaning method for rust? or should they just be left alone?

Your a couple of time zones ahead of Wissmiss so wait for her response.

Are not a lot of your marshes around the Great lakes zoned off for blocks of rat trapping in the 1920's, therefore the stamping.

Did not see your other post with your gems. I was thinking of the Holland marshes north of Toronto. Long Point also had some competive trapping in it as well.
