Well after the great SILVER rush last year, how'd it pan out ? I have to admit, i too got caught up in the silver rush. I'll admit also ,my silver vine is still sealed. I have 0 confidence in it !!! Not that it won't work , but that I will render it useless. So i come here to where smarter and more experienced people are. To get some helpful hints and some in the field testimonies with the first full season after the rush! SILVER VINE whats the Good , Bad, and Ugly of it ? [Linked Image]

My experience was very positive -- Surprise!

During several stretches of bad weather, we had rain, which froze like concrete, and then snow. The tracks over frozen down traps showed cats spent a great deal of time at the set, pacing, etc.

I have to say my best results came from the dry form powder in a tea bag. It seemed to work in whatever I put it in, but then you can't really test whether the cat was attracted to the Silvervine or whatever you added it to, or both. For example, I had good luck with pure ground castor and Silvervine with a little grease to make it stick together. I caught cats on it, but I can't tell you whether it was the castor or the silvervine or both.

Not surprised that LAZARUS responded ( Love those cats by the way!!!) since it was he who i acquired my silver vine from. But the lack luster from others that bought in to the silver bullet ! Either it's so good people don't want it to be outlawed or nobody was impressed with it. As stated , i need to learn more specific's in order to use it to it's full potential.

It sure held its attention for a bit. I am going to have to get some to experiment with for next season.

Lazarus, did you have something in the sage also ? By the tracks looks like it spent some time there also.

No lure there. I think the tracks near the sage were a result of the wind eddies against the little ledge to the left.

My silvervine opinion: It is another tool to have in your bag of cat tricks. Does it work? Yes. Does it work 100% of the time? No, But nothing does, cats are cats. Is it better than castor? Skunk? Mink Glands? Maybe. maybe not. I used silvervine this year mostly in conjunction with other scents. At all my cat sets I use castor, so was it the castor or the SV that got him? Can't say, but I know SV sure don't hurt. Due to work and fatherhood I don't get to trap as much as I would like, but SV was incvolved on sets that took 40% of my cats.

I prefer to use silvervine in a grease (I haven't tried tea bags, and probably will after seeing the above picture), like lanolin, forever, etc etc, I just smear it on a rock, or cedar bough, put it down a hole, put it up high, can't really say there is a wrong way to use it. Does using it hurt anything? At the end of the day, I would prefer to use it vs NOT use it, I will do whatever I can to catch cats.

P.S. I think the enticer is a better product cool

Nice work Laz, did the cat walk thru and continue or go back the same way it approached?

Hard to say because the ground was frozen solid and the snow was spotty. I just know it didn't get caught. That day. :-)

I don't go after Bobcats that hard anymore, set 5 Bobcat set' slast year. Got one bobcat, and missed the kittens which is fine with me. Silver vine is like said above a good tool to have. Wild cats and my 2 house cats go crazy for silver vine. Sure do like them at attractors that Lazarus has. 60 some days and nights of none stop wind and they held up to it. (I showed them off in my demo at regular. 7 meeting) . My wife has taken to the bobcat trapping , does very good at it.

Let me sugar coat this

How many tea bags would an ounce of SV fill with enough to get a response? I was thinking I could get 10-15 tea bags from an ounce. Am I skimping?

I ordered some tea bags the other day on eBay. I'll give it a try this year on my bobcat line, with the silver vine I purchased.

Please report back on your response and thoughts. I was hoping more people would post more on their experience with silver vine. Either it's so good no body want to tell, or they didn't have the response they thought they should. I've had no luck with getting a cats reaction on trail cam. Why, because the first coon that come by takes off with it. Coons find it attractive !! All i can say about silver vine for now.

For those that added it to a grease type base, care to share proportions you used?

That's part of why I held out for the late bobcat season...I don't want coon distracting me from filling my cat tag.
From what I've read, I think silver vine will be the real deal.

On the package, it says what ratio to use with mixing.

It doesn't take much, which at $14/oz is a good thing.
