When I was a kid me and my dad used to go to farm auctions. The kind where everything was sold including tools guns dishes etc. Do the still do those? How would you get a listing of them.

Auction zip.com is a good place to look online. Also check your local papers.

There's no space between auction and zip. Auto correct keeps fighting me on that.

In my area they post signs for farm auctions on the State highways. The ones that have the poorest advertising are the best ones to go to for the best deals. The auctions that are advertised in the local trading post type papers and the monthly farm auctions have much more competition.

If you travel to the Midwest or eastern US you will find more farm auctions than you can possibly attend. Every day of the week in some areas.

There are auctions in the west but not as many. Some of them are indoor auctions of estates.

Check local free advertising papers - Moneysaver out of Lewiston, the Exchange out of Spokane, many others

Just remember everything that is there sells- AFTER the family picks out what they want. In other words the really good stuff never seems to show up.

Farm auctions are still going strong on the East Coast. Our mailbox gets inundated with flyers in the spring.

To answer your question Jim, yes they do have auctions and the best place to locate any close by would be to find the name of the auction house/company nearby and type in their e-mail internet address. They will have a list of upcoming auctions with a complete sale bill and pictures. No sense looking across the U.S. if you don't want to travel and if you do,,,, you've probably got enough $ to buy new. Traps here go for more than new price lots of times. I was at a sale not many years ago where 330 conibears (4 of them) went for 70.00 each.. A sale last summer had #1 LS's (6 of them, one common newhouse) that went for 142.00. Coon size cage traps will sell for 35-50.00 each in July and August in anticipation of sweet corn season. This "recruitment is our future" statement does not hold true here. Maybe in urban /suburban states but not here. In this farming/ranching state we have more new trappers/predator hunters every year and I credit (or cuss) that to the tube here we are watching, shortening the learning curve by watching first hand. I purchase and sell traps here and at the conventions but rarely ever find any I can afford at auctions. It takes two to make the auction but usually there is plenty of competition for usable goods here.... my take

Punch in auctionzip and it will have 30, 50, 100, etc miles to show all listings. However far you want to travel. You can punch in keywords like "traps", "Knives", etc. One thing I noticed is when I punch in traps I get straps for some reason which are far more numerous.

gotoauction.com is a good search also.

In our area watch the Nicklesworth most of the auctions are listed in it. We don't seem to have as many as we used to, it is big business so most things go for to much. Try to skip the weekend auctions as I attend them and there is never anything good there.

Auctions are everywhere. Just do a search on your phone or laptop. I go to several every year. If there is something i really want then i set a price in my head before bidding starts. If bidding goes higher i drop out. Don't get caught up in the auction feaver of it's just five bucks more. Most of the sale prices end up a dollar less then the price of brand new. As for antiques, do your research first or you will over pay.

They still have them here, i hit a few every year. Gotta watch what your buying i now the auctioneer family here and they have bidders in the crowd bidding up which is good if your selling. Same outfit has spring and fall sales and they buy up stuff and re sell it .

We have a lot of them. Multiple sales during the week and of course there is one every weekend somewhere. Community auctions every weekend starting in feb thru april-different community every sat and sometimes two day sales. Our community sale is this sat. and there is a machinery auction near by the same day with alot of good newer equipment and trucks. Central IL.

we have them around here all the time, most don't sell guns though. sometimes you can find some really good deals, but many times they are over run by amish! I try to get to everyone I can.

If you are savvy enough you can sometimes find the estate owner bidding his stuff up. The greedy ones bid on almost everything, the sly ones just bid on the big money stuff- they are the ones you never see at other auctions. Hard to prove but I cant keep my mouth shut and tell them what I think....
