I found a real cutie today, an old Stevens model 94 single shot in 28 gauge! Very cute and very clean. I wanted to try to shoot my first turkey with my 410 double with hammers but this one may get tried first. Any other 28 shooters?

I have nothing clever to put here.

Dad loved his for ducks when lead was legal, he said he could swing it faster than anything else for woodies and teal. Tried it for pheasants, it was a lot better than a 410, more shot and his is a pump compared to a single shot, but preferred a 12 ga. For the range.

What kind of pump 28 did he have?

Very cool! Someday I will find an 870 with a rib in 28. I have a High Standard now but 870’s are my love.

I have a Beretta A400 Xplor w/28” barrel. Fun little dove gun. Might try it on early teal season this Sept. using Bismuth.

I picked up a Stevens 555 compact in 28. I have only shot clay pigeons with it so far,but will take it to the turkey woods in a few weeks.

I had one a few years ago and it was a joy to carry for grouse but I did have troubles with the pendulum resetting and often only got one shot out of it. It was fun to carry though. I couldn’t hit anything with it but that was due to a loose but behind the trigger.

He would still be using it if steel loads were more available I think a couple of companies are making them now, he tried reloading them but back then there wasn’t much data for steel loads, especially on a 28, and they didn’t pattern very good.

I haven’t fired a shot in anger at a duck in almost 20 years. Shooting 410’s and 28’s I don’t punish many grouse either!

I have not had that happen yet. Some said that it happens when you do not pull it real tight to your shoulder when shooting. Kind of like limp wristing a pistol. It needs a real solid surface to recoil against to reset.

I was shooting fairly light loads too, even for a 28.

That's a rare caliber for a Stevens. Did you buy it? Tell me about this .410 double. I love doubles. I had a W.J. Jeffrey (British, London), circa 1930s in twenty-eight gauge. Twenty-five inch barrels and weighed in right at five pounds. A beautiful gun but I couldn't hit a thing with it. I paid three grand for it. Wish I would have kept it. They go for around six grand today when you can find one.

I picked up a 28 remington 1148 two weeks ago. It looks like new, I cant bring myself to shoot it yet. I also have an over/under and side x side in 28 that I shoot. I also have a model 37 winchester red letter in 28 that I dont shoot. It's part of a set. I didn't know stevens made a single in 28. Great find I hope you enjoy it.
