Scavenged a 3/4" piece of plywood and decided to try my hand at making a 160 cubby. 9" x 24" recessed back 7"

I didn't put a bottom on because I thought that would lead to the board rotting faster (and I am also cheap).

Fun little project.

Brian

No point in putting a bottom in as far as I am concerned either, the wood in contact with the ground will rot that much faster.
I also drill a hole for the stake and use it to anchor the 160.

I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. O Lord please don't let me be misunderstood.

sealing the bottom back part of the cubby will keep coon from digging/reaching under to steal the bait

It would be more secure against raccoons stealing the bait from the rear if you would use more screws.

Just kidding, it looks good and those cubbies work very well for coon.

I like a bottom since I like to raise the front end of the cubby up off the ground so the coon doesn't have to get down on It's belly to access the bait. My success was belter when the coon didn't have to work so hard for the bait.

Thanks for the feedback. I will put some wire on the bottom at the back to prevent bait theft.

I put 1" hole in the top centered behind the trap so I can add bait if the mice steal it. Makes dumping in dog food etc a lot easier.
