Two very different things for me. For the most part I hunt when I'm not trapping and I trap the rest of the cold months. If I'm doing neither then I'm fishing. I try to combine all 3 too. It's hard to find a sufficient time balance among the 3.

So I have been a hardcore diehard wild bird hunter over GSPs my entire life. I live breath and eat bird dogs. Please don't make me choose. With that said of forced with a choice, my bird dogs would be in trouble. I'd choose trapping. Thankfully I don't have to choose and can continue to enjoy both passions. There ain't nothing like walking up to a shorthair pointing a covey of huns. And there ain't nothing like walking up to a coyote in a catch circle or beaver butt floating in the water

Well, hunting is for meat production, so that you have something to eat while you are producing money....trapping.

But if bird hunting was out of the equation I would much prefer trapping to hunting big game.

Its tough sometimes to get the desire up to hunt when it's trapping season. I still manage to fit in duck hunting, bow for deer and now going after bear with a bow in the spring season for the first time. I love both, but trap way more. I am trying to fit more hunting in as I can't say which I like more. I am one of those people who think whatever they are doing at that particular time is the coolest thing ever. Fishing is easier to find time for because I can fish when I am not trapping

It is tough, when the northern mallards are coming in right before ice up, to not hunt them. I do resist the urge though. I buy a waterfowl stamp every year and have hunted about 3 times in the last 30 years.

Over time I grew out of hunting and eventually sold my gear. Trapping to me is a different ball game and I love the fact that I can basically do it 24/7 during the seasons. My only pull back into hunting would be turkey hunting, I loved it and will say it's truly hunting and not just sitting!

Too many seasonable variables for a definite answer. I love fox trapping and all that goes with it and run a line about three months each season. It's especially enjoyable when I have canine and/or human partners ride along.
Come spring when fox trapping is over there is nothing I love better than chasing spring gobbler around the mountains of north-central Pa or the swamps of southeast PA. That is the same time of year the walleye and small mouth bass bites are at their peaks. I'm at some lake or river running crank baits every chance I get.
Come fall before the fur primes up I'm happiest when following my labs through upland cover and farmland trying to hit the woodcock, grouse and pheasant they flush for me.
Deer hunting is not my favorite thing to do but processing and eating them is! So I hunt them with crossbows, flintlocks and center-fires over our four-month season.
The really tough part is finding time to earn a living while doing all that trapping, hunting and fishing. Thankfully I'm self-employed and the boss is pretty lenient in allowing me time off to pursue all my hobbies.
Eh...wot?
