That's a rare caliber for a Stevens. Did you buy it? Tell me about this .410 double. I love doubles. I had a W.J. Jeffrey (British, London), circa 1930s in twenty-eight gauge. Twenty-five inch barrels and weighed in right at five pounds. A beautiful gun but I couldn't hit a thing with it. I paid three grand for it. Wish I would have kept it. They go for around six grand today when you can find one.

Oh yes, I bought it! It had serious cute factor!

The old 410 double is cute too. Exposed hammers and very tight. I shot a couple of grouse with it and then put it back in the safe. It’s about like carrying a broom stick.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Sorry Rob not for sale. Maybe you can get it from the wife when I croak.

Nightlife,

I had a beautiful circa 1938 Model 12, Field Grade, 2 7/8" chamber that I picked up shortly after starting my teaching career. I had to go the the local bank and get an $800.00 loan to get it. It was the centerpiece in my Model 12 collection...... BUT........ two boys in college and stuff had to go. The Model 12, a Model 42, and a minty 1886. I made out great, but still looking for a Pre-War Model 12, 28 gauge.

Your daughter's a lucky gal......... Don't scratch the high gloss stock! LOL

Great find, Rob! 28's are a cool gauge for sure. I would love to have an original Win. model 12 in a 28 but they are hard to find and out of my price range in original condition. I had to "settle" for the Browning in the model 12 reproduction grade 4 in 28 gauge that is nice to look at:
Still unfired but not afraid to if and when the mood strikes me.

If you want to see a really sweet combo, look up the Winchester mod. 23 Dove and Quail. Single receiver, two barrel set, one in .410, one in 28.
Just pretty.

Dang! I would have to get a big County beaver contract to afford something like that! Side by sides are my favorite too.

MNMan, that Browning is cute but I never could shoot a model 12 or 42. I grew up shooting 870’s and got used to “cheating” the forend back when shooting.

I'd love to see some pics of both if and when you get around to it. Smaller gauge guns always command a higher price over the larger bores. I owned a few Stevens back when I was a kid but I'm sure the smallest bore was a twenty gauge. My great aunt had one in .410. She gave it to a neighborhood kid in payment for mowing her lawn. I'd love to have that gun.

I had a 11-48 in 28 for awhile, nice enough gun but it was real picky about the ammo it liked. Have a Bakal in .410 sos now, it’s a club! Had a Rem. 1100 in 3” .410 I traded to 160 users folks years ago. Had a blast shooting doves with that in Texas. I’m going to get another one some day.

Rob,
Had a chance to buy that dove and quail combo in 1985 for $3200.00. Pretty sure the 28 barrel had never been shot. Not sure I will ever get over passing on that set.

Glad to see you are shooting that Parker. They were made to shoot not be safe queens. Drives me crazy thinking about all the fine guns just sitting in safes unfired. Scratches just add character and memories. Often wished old guns could tell their stories.

I am also an 870 guy. Ever since I bought one in 1967 or so It has been my favorite pump and served me well both hunting about everything to trap shooting where I did very well with it in the 70's and 80's. I am also a model 12 guy since I bought one in Heavy Duck 3" in 1963 but sold it for college money a few years later. I always regretted that. I now have model 12's in all gauges (one being the Browning in 28) and a 42 as well since I still have a fondness for them even though the 870's seem to fit me better but not by much.

You can still find the 870's in 28 If you look around on the gun sites but they are the newer models and not as good as the old Wingmasters but I'm sure you already know this.

1930's vintage. I paid two grand for the gun years ago and put another two grand into in a restoration by a gunsmithing genius. I sent him the gun and his recommendation was to sue the dealer who sold me the gun. His second sentence was "What the h##l do you expect me to do with this?" Had the barrels sleeved, stock/forearm refinished and the checkering re-cut. Brought it back to life. Utterly amazing craftsman. Twenty-six inch barrels choked modified and full, twin triggers and tipped the scales at an even six pounds. A grouse killing machine.

Nice! I was just told that 20 gauge is the minimum legal gauge here so I guess turkey hunting is out for me.

Some nice guns. Morgan’s 410 isn’t as nice as some of the over unders but it’s kinda cute wouldn’t you say?
