A lot of engineers make the mistake of thinking the end customer has a modicum of common sense.

I think interior lights stay on for awhile to give a person a chance to get his keys in the ignition, fasten the seat belt, etc. My new pickup headlights stay on for awhile after getting out and locking the door.......probly to give a person light to make it to the house safely. I spent $44 on a new lockset/dead bolt the other day that are so cheap I had to leave the screws loose in order for the lockset to latch. China.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

And then there is the old saying in enginerding circles. " If something works flawlessly without breaking down now and then, it does not have enough features. " Ain't that the truth. Vehicles have way too many features, I'm surprised most don't require 2 batteries just for the electronics. Got new to us appliances last summer that ste now 2 years old. The dishwasher has a bunch of features like energy star sanitize etc...takes over 3 hours to run 1 load doesn't dry worth a lick, leaves soap on most dishes messes up most plastics then there's the side by side fridge you gotta be a magician to get stuff in and out without spilling especially if it's big or bulky stuff

Engineers for cars and trucks should have to WORK on them after they design them. Then MAYBE they would design them to be more mechanic friendly! They should have to work WITH them after they design them also.

Whoever put speed lacing hooks on boots has never spent any time in the bush. They catch twigs, vines, and other crap if you go in heavy cover. Ive spent a lot of time in the bush and never had a problem. Maybe because my pants covered them? My dad hated them and snapped them off of his boots.

My daughter bought a new Chevy Cruze last year (IDK why, I tried to talk her out of it). The darn thing shuts off whenever it stops. And it is designed that way! Come to a stop sign and the engine shuts down. as soon as you take your foot off the brake it starts back up.
It's designed to save fuel but is the stupidest engineering idea I've heard of lately. Apparently many Cruze owners think so too and there is now an override button on the 2019 models.. There is none on the 2018.
Eh...wot?

Having no way to override such stupidity would be a deal-breaker for me.

Engineers for cars and trucks should have to WORK on them after they design them. Then MAYBE they would design them to be more mechanic friendly! Ever tried to work in a "bucket" on a motor control center? I think the engineers who truly excel at making cars difficult to work on are promoted to designing MCC buckets. GE is the worst I've come across. Mike

Yup it is a common feature on many cars now. I hate it. We had nothing but trouble with my wife's Cruze. Thankfully warranty and recalls covered the majority of the costs.

Sounds like the MCAS on the 737 Max 8 I get the comparison. My understanding is that the MCA's were introduced to compensate for a design flaw (the upward pitching nose due to relocated engines) And Boeing, for whatever reason, decided not to divulge that information to pilots. Pilots didn't even know what was happening let alone how to turn it off. Chevrolet designed this ignorant piece of engineering and didn't include a way to turn it off. Both companies are introducing system overrides.
Eh...wot?

If an engineer had to build the asphalt parking they design, all parking lots would be perfect squares. Instead, they design something artsy looking that takes forever to pave and includes loads worth of handwork. hey now - engineers and artsy don't go together. if it was up to us, all parking lots would be perfect rectangles, buildings too. if its artsy, there is an architect behind it. or the locality requiring shade trees and green space
