My cousin bought this. Said it's really fun in powder. I've never seen 1 around here. I'm not sure they're even trail legal. Too pricey for me. Cool toy though I guess. [Linked Image]

Wish they made them 40 years ago.

You cant take just a "tracked " machine like a 4 wheeler with tracks legally on an authorized snowmobile trail, because it doesn't meet the definition of snowmobile.

Yup. At least one other company makes a purpose designed snow bike. As in, designed from factory as a snow bike, not a modified dirt bike. I have seen some pretty cool videos of them in action.

And as for trail legal, any groomed and maintained snowmobile trailer with paying members generally do not allow these or tracked four wheelers.

Been hearing about them for a few years, looks like fun but too rich for my blood. Heard you need a big bore motocross bike for enough power. I have a 650 KLR but they are old technology and definitely not a race bike, so don’t think it would work.

They are really popular out here. I have friends that have them and just love riding in the mountains. Not so good on packed or groomed trails

I have a couple friends that ride them. They are not trail legal Wisconsin. But are in Michigan (ORV) where we do all of our riding. We only off trail ride, but use some of the trails to access “play areas”.

You don’t need a big bore kit. They both ride Suzuki 450cc. Mostly in 2nd & 3rd gear. There are some other mods that need to be done with clutching and such. One of the original kit producers is Timbersled. That company was bought by Polaris Industries about 4 years ago. But there are several other brands available.

In Maine any atv or side by side with tracks are allowed on groomed snowmobile trails as long as it’s registered as a snowmobile.

Its unbelieveable White.

We have had to have a permit to ride offroad , dirt not snow ( and forced into designated areas ) for 20 + years now. A few yrs back the Jack holes decided to impose more control with a mandatory safety course . I had to , after 40 yrs of riding , take a stupid online class and obtain a safety card to ride public lands.

In a popular riding area 30 miles out of town , i have had three different government agencies check my permision slip status in a single day. State police , then county sheriff , third was the forest circus . Got in an arguement with the forest disservice jack hole over my fire extending outside thier 2 ft metal ring. I told him he had obviously never been to an elk camp before and had never seen a real fire. By the way there was 2 inches of snow on the ground.

We don't have those words here, either....other than the normal rules on general hi way road systems. Of course Natl Parks have their own rules ....reminds me of that old song, "sign, sign, everywhere a sign...."

450 is a big bore motocross bike putting out 50+ horsepower, my 650 klr puts out about 35 hp. Anybody that has road a motocross bike knows there is a night and day difference from an enduro type bike.

motocross is a highly competitive sport and all four Jap builders and KTM keep competing for the best balance of weight, power and suspension/handling, maybe missing a builder but all I can think of

My friend rebuilt the upper on his 2014 RM this year. I believe he said it was tested right @ 44hp. He was using a Yamaha WR last year. Not sure the year make? But that one had carbs and was real finicky under certain weather conditions and temps.

Husqvarna is the other your probably thinking of?

"Snow Hawk" makes an 800 model that's a pretty substantial machine. A local bought one when they first came out, he had it about 2 months and then one day I saw it setting out by the road with a "for sale" sign on it.

He said it was a going concern and would really get around in deep soft snow, and was a lot of fun to ride, until...you stopped. Like a dirt bike, when you stop you set a foot off to keep it setting up, but in soft snow that foot don't stop going down until the bike is laying on it's side, with your leg pinned under it. He said the first time it happened he had a hard time getting out from under it, then he could not set it back up with being waist deep in snow. The handle bars were above his head. Said it took him a long time to pack the snow down around it so he could stand it back up but he finally did. Then, when he started to go, before he got moving enough to keep it balanced it tipped over again. Same old thing all over again. He was not far off a snow machine track so that time he packed a trail all the way to it and got moving again. By then he was soaking wet with sweat and nearly exhausted. He drove it home, and put a for sale sign on it the next day.
