I was going to buy a Mossberg 535 or 835 but couldn't find one at a reasonable price, so I transformed my 870. The 870 was my dad's gun that I got when he passed, so felt kind of bad changing it, but I believe he would rather me use it than let it sit in the gun safe.
This is what I started with [Linked Image]
These are the accessories that I bought for it (I also bought a new 21" barrel)[Linked Image]
And this is how it turned out! [Linked Image]

its hard to believe how much more control you have on a gun once you add a pistol grip or thumb hole stock!

That looks great DD, how was it putting on the camo skin?

I have to thank Jbyrd63 for the camo skin idea. I was just going to paint it (spray paint dip), but this is MUCH nicer! It wasn't bad, Catch22. The hardest part was the stock because the skin is made for a standard stock. I had to cut the camo wrap down a bit to fit better, then cut out the wrap from all the cutouts on the stock.

For the price, I could have bought a new gun but it wouldn't have the sentimental value.
New stock= $120.00
New barrel = $233.00
New sights= $50.00
Camo wrap= $37.00
Choke tube= $78.00
Total= $518.00

Great looking piece of iron. I have 2 870's set up almost exactly like yours except for the camo which looks great. Mine are not for turkeys one is a slug gun the other is just cool looking. You did a great job and if you think about your dad's is now yours and you have a unique gun that is sentimental, one of a king that you built and the cost is the same as if you bought a generic off the shelf gun. Now now scatter some feathers with it.

I would have kept the sentimental value and left gun alone and spent $500 on a new one.....gun ahead.

I have all the "original" parts. All I need to do is- take off the camo wrap, put the "original" stuff back on and I'll have my dad's exact gun back.

Nice, I think that pistol grip will treat you very good especially turkey hunting so you have better control when sitting.

Looks pretty neat and you did the right thing. I'll have to put something together with my 870 for fall turkey this year I guess. I may just screw a choke tube into mine and call it good though. Maybe sights as well but the jury is still out on that. Have to kill some cardboard with it first and see where it hits with just the bead.

Theres a reason handguns arent shot like the lasers on star trek. Pistol grips are stable. You did to that gun exactly what i wouldve givem the circumstances. Enjoy it

Upgrading your dad's gun to a turkey gun was a great idea. Good job!

Thanks everyone.
Knowing my dad, he would have said, "You don't need all that fancy, expensive crap on there to kill a dang turkey! It's not even a shotgun anymore! You turned it into a ghetto blaster!" And he would mean it (but he would have used a handful of swear words). But I also know that he would want me to use the gun, even if it meant that I turn it into a "ghetto blaster".
We never really had a close relationship, but boy, do I miss him. That's why I'm so excited about this gun. It gives me a chance to spend some time with a piece of him.
