illinideer OP trapper Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 1,028 West Cent IL	Woke up at 5 am this morning to a balmy 33 degrees and frost . Sun was just starting to come up when I got to my blind I did bust a hen off her roost. Most of the morning it was pretty slow would hear a gobble every once in a while but nothing close. About 10 am heard some hens on my neighbors hillside started working them a little, they would answer back so I decided to throw'd a gobble at them and a tom hammered back. Finally seen them about 80 yards from me, group of hens with some jakes. I'd badger the boss hen some but she's wasn't interested anyway I seen one jake break off the pack and started working my way gave him a couple of soft yelps and shut up. He would take about 10 steps and go into full strut and just stand there a while, then he would ease in a little closer and do it again. Took him over a half hour to get to me not a peep out of him. Finally at 30 yard he got behind a big oak and I was able to get the gun up and harvest him. 23lbs 8inch beard and 1/2 spurs I'm guessing a 2 year old bird.
