Trying to figure out the reason why! Are they targeting dogs or wolves or something else? Occurring in multiple counties up here in Northern Wisconsin. Hope whoever is responsible is apprehended quickly!

My first thought was anti-hound hunters. I believe it started back in December and was mostly on National Forest land. Could be! All poison meat was found/consumed along road edges. Somebody driving remote roads knowing that hound dogs would likely be present. Very twisted mind for sure! Chris

This is terrible and really gets my blood boiling, and not just because poison takes out everything whether it's intended or not - it's also because whatever decides to consume the poisoned animal typically dies too. Strange how the anti's NEVER have a bad thing to say when it comes to using poison........

I am very familiar and good friends with some of the U S F&W folks. I can promise you if they get them and they probably will. (Those folks are like the FBI) it's not going to go well for who ever is doing this. What a cruel and sick individual. Poisoning is a cruel painful way to go. As they obviously aren't very intelligent maybe they'll decide to have meatloaf with some of their tainted meat.

U.S. National Forests The United States Forest Service (USFS) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that administers the nation's 154 national forests and 20 national grasslands, which encompass 193 million acres. Pets are allowed in all national forests, but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times while in developed recreation areas and on interpretive trails. Most other areas within the National Forests do not require dogs to be on a leash, but they should be under control at all times. Pets are not permitted in swimming areas.
The above is the statement of leash usage for dogs in National Forests in general and another link showed WI to be following the same guidelines. The vast percentage of National forest land in WI is not developed or in a dog leash zone or area. Also if the poisoned bait was placed on the trials it would be very possible for the dogs to have died as they could have eaten the bait before the owners would have been able to stop some from being ingested.
We may want to blame dog owners but putting poison baits out to purposely kill whatever animal eats it is really unethical and there are no leash laws for coyotes, coons, weasels etc.

Very strange, what would be the motivation for this? Who could possibly benefit from doing this? I wonder if these could be accidental poisonings in Maryland?
