You may not want to hear this but look at other shot other than lead. Lead is the most toxic element outside of chemicals and mercury on the market today. Ingested lead is the #1 cause of death in Eagles and Condor's. A piece of lead ingested the size of a BB will kill an Eagle or Condor. There are other types of shot that can be used. JMO

Check out graf and sons. Their shipping is not to bad compared to most and they have various shot to choose from, lead and non-toxic options

If you are using it for target loads, you might check at your local skeet/trap shooting range. They will sometimes have reclaimed shot at about half the price of new. I bought 250 lbs a couple years ago and it's fine for back yard clay pigeons or doves.

I don't know how toxic lead shot is to eagles and condors, but I do know a couple of things. One is that a bird has to eat the shot before it can be toxic to it. I also know that an incredible amount of lead shot was used for hundreds of years and the population of eagles was not impacted to a discernable degree. The raptors did take a major hit from DDT and have recovered since it's use was banned.

Your are 100% right, the lead has to be ingested by the Eagle or Condors. DDT to a big toll on all raptors. The Peregrine Falcon really to a big hit. Remember when there was lead in paint? Kids were not eating ton's of lead, most were young and teethed on cribs etc.
We have lead shot, sinkers, jigs and baits. Eagles are fish eaters but will also eat carrion. This is just one small way everyone can help out. JMO

If you have a Scheels near you .They do have it . Lead shot is not cheap anymore. Years ago When my dad and I and my brother was loading shotgun it was like $10 a 25 lb bag of shot.

Not quite accurate. Predators die from eating the meat of a bird that ate the lead and died from lead poisoning. Ducks especially, pick up the shot and grind in their gizzard with whatever they eat, and the fine powder/bits kill the duck. Ducks with lead ingestion problems show green anal leakage, and should be discarded.

Gun show might be your best bet. You might have good luck at a pawn shop too? Sometimes I run across old bags of it at the local ones for cheap.

Find someone that makes it then buy all you can afford. I got a ton or so from a guy from the local club for a 32 lb for 25 bucks. Good luck.

The raptor do not die from eating tainted meat. Example, you hunt squirrels with a 410, you shoot at a squirrel and it going in a hole, you only put a couple pellets under the skin, you did not do any harm. The next week while the squirrel is out feeding and a Redtail catch the squirrel and eat it along with the lead pellets, it will die. A eagle catch a blue gill with a jig in it mouth, the eagle will die from the lead. I seen a eagle feeding on a road killed deer two days ago. If it had been hit with a round from a rifle it could be ingested. The deer died from a car hitting it. If you could point me in the direction that support you view please let me know the site.

I just looked up lead poisoning in Wildlife, it stated the Racoon along with opossum have die were tested for lead poisoning but had no signs of gun shot wounds. They come to the conclusion they must have eaten tainted meat that die from lead poisoning.
