When releasing incidentals from snares or cable restraints, which kind of cable cutter do you like, dykes (blue) or the other kind of (red) cutter:

C7 style cutters period. Any other style of cutters cannot physically cut the cable off an animal if its tight at all. The C7 pulls the cable into the jaws so you get it up against the skin of a critter without breaking the skin. And you have to cut inside the loop. Never behind the lock.

These are great for cutting cable I use them in the shop all the time but for on the line the ones I posted the link to are sweet. They cut clean everytime, last forever as long as you don't loose them. Fit in your pocket and you can really shove them down into the pelt for the super-tight snares without cutting a lot of hair or the hide. Plus they are cheap! Give them a try.

Felco C-7, I've had mine for almost 50 years and it still cuts like new.

Mine would still be sharp if I'd stop cutting link chain with them but they are a deal for the price, break in is a pain so I add valve grinding compound to the where the surfaces rub together to speed up the break in process.

I didn't know 'break in' was an issue, Law Dog.

On the line I carry a (now $21) American Cable Cutter as listed in the Snare Shop because it is compact and light weight in my coat pocket. In my shop I use a C-7 and a Hit brand.
