So, what's a "Boomer"? Muskrat, Nutria?? Help me out here. Boomers only live in the Pacific Northwest and are a rodent that destroys small trees in reforestation units. They are called Mountain Beavers but are nothing like beavers as far as furs go.

OK, I looked it up. Sounds like they are pretty small, with a monster reaching just over 2#. Not sure if coni-pans would be a benefit or not, but may be a helpful option. I'd have to be better educated on the habits of this creature to help much, but it seems you are on the right track.

If I were you, I would buy some used #110's. They can be had pretty cheap and I have seen very few that had weak springs. I have picked up a bunch for $18/ doz in the past.

Thank you... from everyone I have talked to and everything I have read Conibear #110's are pretty much all that are used.

I will see if I can find some used ones. Do you think its worthwhile buying a conibear trap setter? Anything else I will need you can think of?

I don't think a body trap setter is needed. Especially on 110s. Might take more time to use them than to set the trap by hand. Once you've set a few dozen of those traps, you will get a system down that makes setting them easy and fast. Another option is to set the traps at home before you get out on the line. This works very well with larger body traps. Not sure it is necessary on 110s. Good Luck with this project. Hope you make some money.

I appreciate that... those are the kind of tips I am looking for. Do you have any advice on stakes? Again, newbie question here but should I buy them or can a guy make them from wood pretty easy? Any other tools that you find very helpful? Thank you!

I would not bother buying stakes - waste of money. For your project, you can make do with stuff you have sitting around - rebar, wood survey stakes, anything that will hold the trap,in place. This is a small animal and you are using body traps. Thank you! I appreciate the insight from a much more experienced trapper such as yourself.

Hit Newt up for some of his muskrat snares. He may be able to even custom some for you.
You can carry a lot of them and a couple rolls of wire will be your best friend.
