I have four Tikkas in my gun room and each is terrific. That being said many other makers did very well, Older Winchester XTR's, Rmington BDL's, 721's, 722's, the newer Savages, Rugers, Sako etc. I've got a Husquvarna Imperial 7mag that's never been fired but boy I love looking at it. Something for every taste.

I have both. The 6 mm will out shoot the 243. As for ammo when you find it buy some extra (what ever the load) and don't worry about it. Really stop and think how many rounds will she need each year. I here and see people say "I got 15,000 rounds of a certain caliber stored up because there is a shortage". DUH ever wonder what causes the shortage.

Not many manufactuers sell the 6mm now.

The .243 is much tamer than the .308. I had a Remington 600 carbine in .308, the old styleneither the rib on the barrel. You could see a 12" flame when you touched that thing off. Sold it when they got collectible.

LOL yes put a 6 mm in a 243 bolt wont close. BUT you should be able to shoot the 243 in 6 mm. DON'T try it tho.......

Actually, my mind was made up to get her the 6mm because that would be my own personal choice. But, I heard too many on here say ammo availability is an issue. So, I decided on the 243 for that reason and my granddaughter's birthday is 5/8, a week away. The dealer said she could have a 243 Savage Axis 11 in two days. It would take at least a week to get something in a 6mm.

That's what I really wanted her to have was the Creedmoor. But, her dad has one and said it has too much recoil for her. I've even debated on one for myself and I have a lot of guns.

My wife shoots a Savage Axis in 7-08. She wanted it because it was pink camo. Turns out it shoots great. Hers did not have the accutrigger and it was horrible. After a trigger job it is great. I believe the Axis II has the accutrigger????

Nice choice, and you can always change the barrel on that savage without having to take it to a gunsmith, savage has come a long ways with their rifles.
