I have four Tikkas in my gun room and each is terrific. That being said many other makers did very well, Older Winchester XTR's, Rmington BDL's, 721's, 722's, the newer Savages, Rugers, Sako etc. I've got a Husquvarna Imperial 7mag that's never been fired but boy I love looking at it. Something for every taste.

My gun guy told me years ago that you could shoot .243's in the 6MM, or visa versa. The smaller case would fire form to chamber, but accuracy should be the same.
The .243 is much tamer than the .308. I had a Remington 600 carbine in .308, the old styleneither the rib on the barrel. You could see a 12" flame when you touched that thing off. Sold it when they got collectible. LOL yes put a 6 mm in a 243 bolt wont close. BUT you should be able to shoot the 243 in 6 mm. DON'T try it tho.......

Sounds like ur mind was already made up before u asked the question Yes it does. I have both. Essentially the same performance I have 1 6mm and 3 .243s. Ammo availability is a real thing

Ammo availability is a real thing Actually, my mind was made up to get her the 6mm because that would be my own personal choice. But, I heard too many on here say ammo availability is an issue. So, I decided on the 243 for that reason and my granddaughter's birthday is 5/8, a week away. The dealer said she could have a 243 Savage Axis 11 in two days. It would take at least a week to get something in a 6mm.

Everyone on this thread is wrong. All the cool kids are shooting the 6mm or 6.5 mm creedmoor.
Gun Nut That's what I really wanted her to have was the Creedmoor. But, her dad has one and said it has too much recoil for her. I've even debated on one for myself and I have a lot of guns.

I have been loading the 85 TSX for the kids rifles. Impressive little bullet. Light recoil and decent velocity. Pretty simple shooting for inside 300 yards and stuff just dies. In the right situation I would let them poke holes in elk with that bullet. My wife shoots a Savage Axis in 7-08. She wanted it because it was pink camo. Turns out it shoots great. Hers did not have the accutrigger and it was horrible. After a trigger job it is great. I believe the Axis II has the accutrigger???? Nice choice, and you can always change the barrel on that savage without having to take it to a gunsmith, savage has come a long ways with their rifles.
