As more and more use DP's im hearing more not liking the push trigger believe that has more to do with type of bait and amount used I only have Duke pull triggers so that's what I have my best results with smile

My opinions:

Push trigger models are not cat and dog proof. Foolish design.

I use pull only. Cat and dog proof, no misfires, and no pullouts.

Look at PCS Feather Lights. I would not use others even if they were free.

Pull type traps aren't cat proof either. Sweet bait will keep cats out but you will catch some with a fish type or cat food base bait.

I try to keep my traps light brown to match the surroundings. White traps haven't out caught brown in my experience but they have been stolen more.

Color of trap may make difference sometimes but for most part. Color probly means nothing, I just painted mine black, all spray paint I had laying around, bait makes a difference, I use white styrofoam paper cup on top in rainy weather

Ok I thought coons were color blind. With that said I understand they see shades of gray. Really if you want to add visual attraction paint them chrome. Shiny things reflect and will draw attention. PLUS most coons work your traps in the dark making the color choice even less important.

I have only run Ztraps. Dont have many....6 dozen. All are white except a dozen. I trap all private land. Never had one stolen. Many people in the SE US still don't t know what a dp trap is.

I have painted all the brown ones white but b4 I did I intentionally set brown and white Zs on same coon trail a few feet apart many times.....sometime 4 traps in 15 feet span.....same bait (marshmallows). The white traps out-caught the brown traps. I did this for about 2 seasons. Not a very detailed experiment but enough that it showed me the attraction to white.

White spray paint wears off, but the factory coating hasn't. It has scratched some but coating is holding up well. I generally catch 60 to 80 coon annually....nearly all at deer feeders on pay jobs.

Fishy baits, including cat food dont work near as good in these southern swamps as marshmallows. Have caught 2 grey fox on marshmallows....never a house cat.....and only a few possums.

If I trapped around many dogs I would probably consider pull only....even though I've never had an incident.
