How old do coins need to be to actually be worth anything? I have a pile of coins from the 40's-60"s. Are they really worth hanging onto?

I have nothing clever to put here.

All pre 64 or 65, (I confuse it with Winchesters) are silver worth a lot more than face value. A dime is worth like 1.10 or some such.

As said, 64 was the last silver minting. Other than that buffalo nickels, Indian heads, wheat pennies etc have more valu. Probably others as well, my father was a collector but I never took interest.

Consider how much you could buy with those coins in the 40s and 50s and I would think you would be lucky to get about 1/2 face value today...

I guess the dimes will get loaded into 12 gauge shells then. You can do a lot of damage with $2 worth of dimes!

So you finally emptied the pockets of the pants you have been wearing forever.

Especially to your 12 gauge.

The good thing about the coins is they already have their assay in case you run into to someone that doesn't trust anyone. Of course I guess you could just bite silver bullion to see if its real, lol.

Should be a fair amount of silver in those coins.

I never figured you for a coin collector, lint or used tape balls seems more your style. I have a few coins myself it was a fun hobby for a while I was into it.

It's not a coin, but this is my latest addition to my collection. I got it at a gas station. The girl working the register thought it was fake. She had never seen old money. It's barely seen any use for a 1974

Bad choice cause the chock end of the barrel is smaller than a dime when it comes down the barrel.................kaboom

I will look after all the Krugerrands that are in the collection, especially the ones that look like brass.

I got an early 60's $5 a while back the same way. Actually I think it says "$5 Note" on it.
