Thanks! I was curious because the last one I saw selling at an auction were going for $80-90 apiece. I think (and my wife agrees) that sheared beaver is very luxurious and nice to handle.

Plucked is the KEY...…...removing all that stiff guard hair. I had a hat and chopper mittens made from plucked and sheared beaver and it's incredibly SOFT!! I don't think I'd have much interest in just sheared beaver (not plucked).
Just my opinion.

I agree with Bristleback, a beaver that has been just sheared (not plucked) would not be very comfortable to the touch. Sort of like touching the face of a guy with a heavy five o'clock shadow. smile

Plucking removed the stiff bristley guard hair.

My mistake. I meant plucked as well.

See if I screwed up- I sent beavers to Tubari, (3) will be hooped and I tagged them round (that was per Tubari Instruction). The other (12) are for mittens and I believe I just checked Garment Tan as the option. Was I supposed to specify more detail, like plucked or sheared?

No I think you would have to ask for plucked and/or sheared if that is what you wanted.

Give them a call and check for sure +1 (973) 779-8600

I heard Tubari is tanning a lot of beaver pelts for people that used to send beaver to Great Northern Fur.

Great Northern has suspended their tanning operations while they "regroup". They made arrangements with Tubari to dress the back log of beaver that had accumulated at GN. All this information is posted on the GN web site.

I saw that. Wow. It started with just beaver pelts being turned away by GNF. Looks like it's expanded to everything at the moment. Too bad.
