I get a hog every year from the same guy, been doing this for 5 years... I usually get around 5 for other people also. Usually it’s 300 buck per hog, they usually weigh 290-320.. this year he said he’s going to charge me live weight per pound... but didn’t give me a price per pound.. he said he has to call someone.. I thought that was weird. Guys a great guy, never had any problems with him.. I guess what’s the going price per pound live weight for hog... I don’t know... I pay butcher.

Hogs right now here in WI are doing poorly. $45-$70 per CWT for butcher hogs which puts a 250 lbs butcher hog at at about 140-180 dollars at our markets now. Local home raised ones are selling better but not that high.

I have been buying for 6 to 8 years but may not this year due to some surgeries I need to have done.
There are some swine flu scares in China but that is being countered with the trade issues.

I raise hogs in Minnesota, current market price is 63 cents per pound live weight of entire hog, So a 300 pound hog would be $189. However the price in other parts of country might be higher or lower depending on supply etc...

A swine ebola outbreak in China and S.E Asia is wiping out entire farms there so I figure pork prices will begin to rise soon.

I pay $175 bucks for a butcher hog that weighs between 290-320.. The farmer Also hauls it to the processor for that price... It works out great for myself..

Exactly and then all the feed for 3 months or more. The only thing with raising it Yourself is knowing What went into it.

Around here at the processors it ranges from $2.29-$2.59 per pound hanging weight completely butchered to your specs and vacuum packed. Average half weighing 90-100lbs.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Not that hard, but you got to have tools such as grinder, stuffer and suff.. plus a smoker for hams and bacon... if that’s what you like... I’d rather pay the piper

.45 cents a lb. may be for something not up to expectations. A few bucks more for something you know you like is well worth the cost.
