Washington Gov signed into law on May 8th the following law which states

"HB 1739 prohibits possession of untraceable “ghost guns” which include plastic guns printed on 3D printers and guns that do not have a serial number, which are usually acquired through a DIY kit. It also bans the transfer of files for 3-D printable guns."

This appears to me as not only an attack on the first amendment but also the second. The left used to be the champions of free speech now they are capitulating and losing the "liberal" values that used to make up the left, no longer satisfied to be "liberals" they have moved to Tyrants.

I was going back to the days of things such as "the life of Brian" that the religious right were trying to shut down.

I can't remember now but this issue is being or has been dealt with in the federal courts. It may be on a stay right now but the initial ruling was favorable to the second amendment. Either way at some point it will be found unconstitutional. Just hang in there. As far as no serial number that is a felony under BATF. You are allowed to build 1 gun per year for personal use and it has to be assigned a serial number by the builder. To my knowledge there is no requirement to register it with the government.

turkn8rtrapper , you may be talking about a state law. You can build as many guns for yourself as you like. Without serial #'s. You can not legally transfer them to someone else whether as a gift or a sale. Doesn't matter. Can't legally do it under federal law.

There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of guns legally owned traded sold and gifted , without serial numbers, because they were manufactured before 1968 and no law required them at the time of manufacture. Yes many old guns do have serial numbers but many others do not and those guns are legal to own trade sale and gift to another.

The Second Amendment issue is clear to me, but could you explain how the First Amendment comes into the picture?

If there's a First Amendment issue, then where is the ACLU? They never show up for the Second Amendment, but the First is their darling.

The ACLU will no longer take cases that "are contrary to our values", stick a fork in them they are done.

The first amendment issue is that you can no longer transfer files that would allow someone to print a gun. You can no longer transfer knowledge, that is a restriction on speech that we should not allow.
