Tithing is not being charitable, to me that is.
Being charitable is a led thing and is executed in various "changing" forms.
Like asking a blessing over food, it is easy to lose sight of the purpose doing the same thing every time.

Salvation Army is one of the best charity's to give to as far wasted money for wages/salaries and money used on other expenses. There was great article on the most efficient run and what percentage actually went to help the people instead of being wasted on other things. I have given to quite a few charities over the years including the Salvation Army. I feel bad for those bell ringers who sit outside during the Christmas season looking for donations. Not many people carry cash on them anymore and they don't take debit cards.
