Working on a total redo of bathroom and need to raise the floor. House is a slab on grade with radiant floor heat. New floor will be tile.

Old bathroom floor had 1" plywood overtop of the concrete then backerboard and tile. Plumbing leak let water into the plywood and it got funky, hence the remodel.

Can't tile direct to existing concrete because it would be a step down from the rest of the house. Also, the slab is pretty rough and not level.

Instead need to build it up somehow - need a minimum of a 1.25" lift so drain lines for sink can be under toe kick of vanity. (I didn't build it!)

Raising it entirely with self leveling compound would be silly expensive, but might be the "right" way....

Question is - what about about raising it with concrete instead? Cracking might be an issue???

Other options? Layer of SLC then cement board, then tile? Any suggestions appreciated.

Etch the old floor with muriatic acid then use Sand Mix with acrylic fortifier.

You can attach self furring metal lath to the floor and use a cement and sand mix. If your not real good at smoothing it out and making it level hold back a 1/4" put a bit of a scratch on the cement/sand mix and top it off with self leveling cement.

What ever you do I suggest a anti crack membrane between the substrate and the tile. You will have different rates of movement in all three of them. It's also a vapor barrier.

Use a ramset with short pins and washers to anchor it down. The radiant heat tubing won't be in the top 1/2"-3/4" of the slab. Don't drill them in.
