New York's Senator Gillibrand wants to give social security to illegal immigrants that have not paid a dime into it. They predict that SS will be broke by 2035. And this air head wants to be President???

You would think with the current job rate that might be extended several years. Requiring us to pay to get it by working then giving to people that have not or illegal is a joke just pimping for votes really. You ever why nobody in DC is willing to fix it that always bothered me that they would let it wither on the vine rather then finding a fix for it.

When was the last time they increased the pay in amount? Why have they not kept up with a sustainable payment rate to keep it going?

Why should they increase the pay in amount?

Why not cut benefits?

Having to keep raising payment rates would be the definitiin ofa Ponzi scheme

Don't remember it being raised forever that comes to mind, that is like saying a cost of living raise makes no sense!

Gotta keep having more babies to keep social security going. Our birth rate has been going down for a long time, It's just barely at replacement rate right now, and that's only because of immigrants. If it weren't for immigrants, we'd be below replacement rate. Gotta make babies to grow up to be workers to pay in to social security. Lots of people retiring+not enough workers paying in=bad stuff (either higher payments in or less paid out.)

The rate has been raised pretty consistently for decades until 2011.

You just look at what they want you to put into a 401K to be comfortable and then a guy sees what he has paid in to SS and the gap is huge really. The 13 years I put into State retirement pays about 60% of what a lifetime of paying into SS has paid out after working since I was 14 years old.

A simple question really are we paying enough to keep the system working? Just seems like the payments are behind the times not sure how people that had to live on $1,200 a month could do it today. With planning and other incomes it's easy but we all know not everyone is in that boat.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Medicare would be fiscally sound were it not for all the freeloaders congress has added over the years to get themselves reelected. I doubt that MS. Gillibrand would know the difference between "fiscally sound" and "fiscally reckless".

She sounds like one of those "progressives" .
I looked at her web page. I'm guessing the guy in the photo hiding behind the house dog is her husband.

I already know how they will fix social security. They'll print money and devalue the dollar. You'll get everything that's owed to you - it will just be worth 10 cents for every dollar.

How about we are given the choice to keep our money and invest it for our retirement, or if you want let .gov invest your money. How about if you don't work, you don't get. Finally how about if you are not a citizen you receive no kind of benefits.

there is only one fund. lots of different ways that fund is funded but all the money goes to the same place. If s.s. goes "broke" the whole economy is collapsed as its all together. fiat currency, fire up the printing press and add a couple zero's to the government general fund with a couple key strokes.

Currently many illegal aliens receive supplemental social security income under section 2 of the Aug 22, 1996 non citizens law. Simply by applying for asylum and requesting a hearing aliens are granted conditional entry into the US, thereby clearing this hurdle. That's $771 for individuals and $1157 for couple. So this is already happening, he is just trying to get votes, illegal votes at that.

Bush Jr had a great idea to start a slow elimination of SS and allow the thrift savings program that the Gov. allows employees to become the retirement program for all. Did not pass go to many said the welfare and low income people would not invest in it and become broke and would therefor be on the dole in their old age. Social Security is going to do that in the near future. The national debt and SS is killing us all a bit more every year.
