My lady is vacationing in the Portsmouth Rhode Island area for the next week. Any suggestions on things to see/do? BTW, she didn't ask, I am just curious about what's in the area.

All kinds of history in the area, some dang good fishing, fresh and salt. She likely has different interests than I, but she might enjoy the miles of beaches and the historic mansions south of Newport. I lived in Portsmouth (had clams in our back yard and more skunks in the community than house cats) for a while and in RI about 15 years, there is something there to interest every one within an hour or so drive, just key in you interest to a search engine. The entire state probably isn't as big as your county so SE Ma. and E Ct are part of the deal. Newport used to have red fox and ringneck pheasant wandering the streets before the people got out and about. Portsmouth in and of itself is not too interesting, fishing and truck farming when I was there.

Deer swimming miles across the Bay to get to those truck farms was an interesting sight in the evening and returns in the mornings, both from the Ma mainland and from islands in the Bay.

Plenty of tourist shops and eating places in Newport, RI. Definitely worth exploring.

Eastern CT isn't far from where she is at. It's worth checking out the submarine museum at Groton, CT. Also if she likes casinos, eastern CT has Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

From Portsmouth it's only about an hour to Boston, endless variety of entertaining stuff there. The Battleship Cove is just about 10 minutes from Portsmouth across the river and well worth a visit.
