I purchased a older CDR trap from a man that got it directly from Carl Jones. On the bottom of the base plate it is stamped NO. 0024 and below that is stamped CDR 1000.
Does anyone know anything about the numbers stamped on it? I have asked a few people and nobody has ever seen stamped ones. It has never been used and in out of the box condition. Thanks, Don

Sounds like you got yourself a special trap. The CDR was a great trap....I wonder if it was a auction item that the CDR boys donated to a trapping assoc. chapter?

That is a prototype. They gave me some to test before they went on the market. They were different than the final product and were numbered . The ones I tested had standard levers rather than the wire levers. The jaws where hand formed and varied a little in size from trap to trap.

Here's a picture of #0013.

Here is a picture of #0010, which was laminated.

Paul, why did they switch to wire levers?

I love everything about the CDR except setting it. It's the only trap I own that I cannot set by hand.

They went to wire because it was an improvement. They rode up on the jaws farther giving them better holding power.

Thanks, Paul
Mine looks like your first one. Any idea how many were numbered?

I think I looked at the same trap in Ed's fur shed last week? Is that where you got it from? I wasn't too interested in it at the time, but I had a feeling I'd probably kick myself at some point for not getting it. Did you sell coyotes to Ed this past winter? I may have met you.

No, I don't know how many there were like that. I had about a dozen of them. I've been offering them for our fundraising auctions over the years. I think I have one of them left, but I don't recall the number.

They definitely do that. I don't get misses with them. If a CDR is fired there's a foot in it.
