I think , big THINK, they cleared the waterway once they dislodged and were moving again as a dam impact and failure would've been disastrous for any craft in proximity. Plus, those waters might've made mooring to them touchy.

What a mess. Is there NO plan in place for an event like this??? Wow, not the first time something like this has happened, so you know it will happen again. Lol

Almost as much as has been washed of peoples lawns and into the river.

Fertilizer in our water ways isn't a good thing but with the amount of water moving it was dispersed so fast I wonder if it was even be noticeable very far down stream.

What are you going to tie them off to? If they aren't at a terminal then there isn't much you can use as a fastening point... 3800 tons in that kind of water would uproot every tree in the state.

I don't know what they normally tie them up with. But with rapid water I imagine you're going to want heavy duty cable or chain... Which is going to be slow and cumbersome to handle, especially if you're working on some remote muddy river bank with half the world's water flowing by at 40 mph. crazy

We don't typically have vessel sinking ordinance along the Arkansas River. At least not complete with delivery system. Suppose an F16 from Tulsa could've done it. But I'm not sure where 138th Fighter Squadron keeps ammo.

We've gotten two inches of rain in the past two hours with an additional two expected within a similar time frame.

I was out there several years ago... We had to pull a half mile of 15kV cable from one of the substations to one of the buildings... all through underground vaults.

Anyway, every morning about 9:00 the F-16's would take off for their daily practice flights. All work would stop until they were in the air and away... It was just too loud to try and communicate with anyone while they were spooling those engines up for takeoff.

Pretty cool experience. Deafening, but cool.

Wife told me that 8 more barges broke loose but they were able to get them corraled and secured... And I guess the USS Batfish is floating and trying to wander off too.

Miami, OK is an absolute mess. Last I knew Hwy 69 is closed because the Neosho is covering the bridge going in to town.

Haven't seen the animals lining up two by two... Yet.

Mike, Up here by Burlington they are releasing water at the John Redmond reservoir. Holding back as much as it can so to maintain the reservoir integrity they have to release. Burlington is only 3 miles down river so rain isn't increasing river levels to much. Neosho falls, Iola and on down river some people have been evacuated. Over by Neodesha they have been stockpiling rip rap out of about the only quarry they can still get into for when it finally quits raining. Will be a LOT of road and railroad repair to do.

True! I'm a conservationist and a steward to our waters, land and environment. It is our responsibility to protect what we love and the places we want to be in. All that sheet that was dumped in the water can't be good. This barge company should have more brains then a mentally ill shooter at a school shooting. There should be rules and prevention protocol for material hauled or stored on any water ways for catastrophically events like this. JM2¢

But then who really gives a rats donkey about the land we live on or waters we fish on. Lol Just another day.

I hear ya Danny. Tulsa is really up against it right now. Last I heard Keystone dam is releasing 300k cfs to keep the water levels from going over the dam but they can't really keep up with inflow... They need to release more but they're already flooding everything downstream with what they're releasing.

I may take a trip down to the Pensacola dam at Langley to see what kind of release they're doing. I'm guessing they're having to control their release because Hudson and Ft. Gibson are downstream of P'cola. It doesn't really matter because it all eventually goes into the Arkansas... So whatever they release is just adding to the misery down there.
