Im fishing for trout..rainbow and browns. Big ones. 500 cfs of water up to 1500 cfs. Needing a Rapala that will get down there, not a floater. And about a 1/4 oz for distance. Theres a million different models! What do I need?

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Countdown rapalas, they sink about one foot per second. I always did best with silver or gold. Bass Pro or Cabelas. also Tackle Warehouse carries the full Rapala line. Owned by Pure Fishing group. I think the size ya need is #7 and #9. Good luck

Can't go wrong with #11floating . Weight can be added by a split shot about a foot up the line. Multiple size split shot means different depths.

Orange and gold countdowns or rainbow countdown I've caught a lot of big browns on...

I don't fish for trout but use a lipless crank like a Rapala Rattlin Rap to get me down deep when I want to. ! usually use a 1/2 oz. when after walleye or bass.

It's beat up from bouncing off the rocks and walleye teeth.

Count down for sure But I would go bigger for big trout. Nine as a minimum eleven would be good for fish in the three to eight pound range. Black over white and black over gold. White on clear days gold on overcast. Crocodiles in silver with florescent orange stripes and gold with same both hammered finish three inches from eye of swivel to bottom of treble hook. With both lures cast across the flow upstream at a forty five degree angle keep your rod tip high and reel fast enough to make them swim but not so fast that you don't bump bottom occasionally. I've caught hundreds of rainbows and browns that would look good on anyones wall with this technique and these lures. Good luck and tight lines.

Not a trout fisherman but the only thing I know about rapalas is that I haven't used one in probably 10 years

Once I started using a #4 salmo hornet, it's absolutely outfished rapalas for me going after walleye's, small jaws love em to so maybe it would also be a good trout crankbait

Big trout and deep water I'd go with rainbow colored Rapala Tail Dancer.

Jerk Shads in Arkansas shiner, pick a long shank jig head in a weight that will do the job . Probably start with a 1/4 oz head.

I used 2-3" rapalas in the root river, Lanesboro, MN, best before day breaks

we use Rapalas pretty much all the time. We use the size 11 in the many different colors depending the clarity of the water. We set the rigs up with min of 1/4 oz 18 - 24 inches ahead of the Rapala. This set up works for many species in this area.

Countdowns would work no doubt, but I bet rubber swimbaits on a jighead would be good as well, especially if you are fishing from a boat..

Good luck.

Newt, you're half right. cfs depends on the size of the river in terms of fishing conditions.

But maybe you were joking.

Get downriggers and use whatever lure you found in the Bargain Bin at Walmart!
