Agree with Posco. Considering all this careful work, observing all the twists and turns of the wood, I cant help but wonder how to keep it maintained nicely. Lots of talent in woodworking improvisation .

Thanks Suppose your right about that but it's the wife's area..lol She can keep up the maintenance.. Anyone know of a real good protective finish? I'd prefer oil I'm thinking its best to protect the wood from the environment.. Just not sure which brand works best..

Thanks I'll check it out.. I put it on my cabin. After four years, the water beads up and rolls off.

Verry nice looking work. Now I have to hide this thread from the missus, or she will want something like it.

Thanks I'll check it out.. I put it on my cabin. After four years, the water beads up and rolls off. Did you use the natural or one that had color pigment..My wife wants it to have a little tint to it I disagree I’d like to leave it natural but it’s not my project... My fear is pealing finish, I think the oil based finishes have less of a chance of pealing?

Scuba, good thought..This project started out as a stump table and a couple chairs, it just keeps growing.
Finding the parts can be a challenge some of this was going for stair railings in the house.. Basically I would drive around looking for dead cedars and ask the land owner if I could cut them..Some owners walked me to my truck, lol well not really, but some are protective of their dead cedar..
I’ve found a good supply now which makes it a lot easier...

My fear is pealing finish, I think the oil based finishes have less of a chance of pealing? I used very light pigment and there is no peeling whatsoever. As I mentioned, this has been on my cabin for four years and the water still beads up and rolls off the logs. It's a great product with great reviews.

^^^ Posco I used a Forstner bit and hand drill to cut the mortises Started using a hole saw and draw knife to cut the tenons but took for ever.. So I found a local Amish guy to cut the tenons on his tenon machine..
