So I was flipping through their catalog and in the section where they talk about their various firsts in the industry, they mention something called The System. Said they only sold it to trappers who could keep a secret until some guy made a video of it then they took it off the market. Theres no pictures but it mentions that it was the fist all metal slider system that could be used in culverts of all sizes. I figure this was just like the first incarnations of a rebar drowning rod but really wanted to know if any of you guys would have anymore info. Pics mabye ?
Thanks ! God Bless !

Yes, classified information ! Not to be sold or even talked about to anyone within a 300 mile radius of Broadus,Montana.

Just joking with ya wolf. But several years back O'Gorman did have a rule like that on some of his stuff.

As far as a system I dont remember him having something called that right off hand.

I do remember a book advertised in FFG by another guy that he called The System. I beleive. It was back in the early 80's.It was about water trapping.I always wanted it but it was like 20 or 25 bucks and that was a ton of money for a book back then ! And especially for a kid that was not old enough to have a steady job yet.

niteprowler,,,the book you refer to was "water trapping at its best, the system". author was marlin farmer out of alabama. the methods were almost all bridge/culvert wall sets.

McChewk,
Fossil is correct. It is hard cover book that focuses almost exclusively on his system of blind setting using modiifed number one long spring. As niteprowler pointed it out it was sort of pricey for the time it came out. Farmer mentioned that another system book was to follow for another critter but I never see the second book in the series hit the market.

There was a kid in high school who had the Farmer book. I couldn’t or wouldn’t spend the 25.00 for it. He let me borrow it and it made a kid dream of making big water catches. I bought the book years later and it seemed a lot simpler than I remembered. Lots and lots of pictures of verticle edge sets either bridge walls or trees. You can find them for about the same 25 bucks or even less today. The sets are still solid info but are pretty much common knowledge in any mink book now.
I am not privy to he other book that started the thread.

Wolfie, you are right. A smooth rod with a sliding drowner lock to be used inside a culvert. I have/had one, I will see if I can find it and get a picture of it.

So can anyone write a book and sell it to the bunch for $25? Sounds like a good way to make some extra cash.

The Dan Bishop from Evansville WI was a crook from the word go. He gave his first class at my home. We had 12 students there and at ten end no one paid him for his class. One guy said he had learned more from me over the phone then he learned In the class.
He was I think the first one that went on the road giving classes. And I'm pretty sure he stiffed a lot of hotels for room space.
If you looked close at his book you could see where he copied pictures from other books and even used some of the wording when describing sets.

The brains behind It was his cameraman Brett.

But he did start on the road trapping instruction.

I think Dan has passed.

The other Dan Bishop was out of Greenville NY. I bought all his stuff several years ago. He had as whole shed full of beaver castor, many lure ingredients, hundreds of older traps.

Not sure about the mink system but he had a fox system.

Dan was a school teacher and he also manufactured Glacier Valley deer scents I don't remember any trapping lures.
