Came across a clip of this old movie today. It's been years since I watched it. "The Final Countdown" Made in 1980. For those of you who have never seen it, a modern aircraft carrier gets pulled into a time warp and goes back to December 6th 1941 the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor. This scene was my favorite in the movie. Two Tomcats come across two scout zeros ahead of the Japanese fleet that just strafed a civilian pleasure boat. It would be like drag racing a Lamborghini in a model T. It always gives me a chuckle when I see it. Enjoy
I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.

I don't know much if anything about airplanes but it seems to me that a Zero at full speed would be just above stalling speed for a tomcat.
Great movie, been years since I watched it, I’ll have to watch again soon.
Interesting about the different speeds, interesting enough for me to look it up. From Wikipedia; the stall speed of an F-14 is about 132 mph depending on lots of things, mostly wing position. Design stall speeds were 173 mph, or 87 mph with wings extended.
The zero cruised at 230 mph and had a max speed of 351 mph.
Eh...wot?

Guess that put a hint or realism in the scene. They were flying around with the wings extended while they were "playing around".
