Got a 40 lbs. bag of fish food pellets and a gallon of stock molasses to mix for DP bait. How do you mix the two without making a big sticky mess ? Any tips or advice ? -Thanks

I used a durable plastic tray that was designed for DIY concrete work and I bought a cheap garden hoe to mix the stuff.
I added 5lbs of honey to the mix too.

Do the pellets clump up and stick together ?

Or go to your local feed store and buy the granulated molassas. No sticky mess that way.

Personally I would keep the fish pellets dry and not mix with stuff that makes a gooey bait. I would mix the molasses with some sweet flag and use it as a trail scent or dribbled around the DP.

It will soak in for the most part.

I add sent (vanilla/mint extract) to pellets, let soak in, then coat with hot bacon grease.

This is my go to fish pellet mixture.

Two pounds fish pellets
One pound oreo cookies crushed up in food processor
3 ounces of liquid smoke
3 ounces of cooking oil or bacon grease.

Has proven to work on my line in hot and cold weather.

I cut my molasses 50/50 with pancake syrup. Makes it easier to mix and soaks into the pellets better. If you use the right amount, you will end up with a pellet that is not sticky at all. It will absorb all of the molasses/syrup and be very easy to use. Probably used a whole 5 gal bucket last season. Had everything including coyotes and fox work DPs baited with this mixture. Had a red fox that would go around from DP to DP every night for a while and clean up all of the pellets around them.

Don't over complicate DP bait for coons. Give them something to grab a hold on(pellets, pet food, corn, etc), and anything with scent that they can eat.

Everyone has the "right" way but a big rubbermaid tote is great for mixing. The plastic totes have a tendency to crack when using a drill. I wouldn't pour the molasses in either, I would thin it out and use a spray bottle to get a better coating and then mix with a glove/hand, mixing stick or paddle drill on a slow mix. Use a 4x8 sheet of plywood or cardboard etc and place in the sun to dry it up to a tack, or bake it. It won't run or become a sticky mess.
