A bit early but Im calling it summer and love to grill with a cold one! Going to try to make some of my own rubs and sauces any favorite recipes?? Was in Austin Texas not to far back and stopped at the Salt Lick all I can say is wow. I did bring back some of their rub and wish I had recipe. Any way would love to see some good recipes I have bought a bunch of rubs and always seem to salty and lack flavor. I will say my favorite sauce is Famous Dave's Rich and Zesty if you have not tried it pick some up its is my favorite. Not to sweet and has a bit of I think citrus in it with a bit of heat. Thanks for any recipes.

Google the address and go to recipes. playingwithfireandsmoke, just like I have it typed. Its a site put up by a local Casper guy but has tons of info from around the country. Good place to learn and see some good recipes.

im cooking up a mess of pulled pork this weekend - 180 lbs for a wedding - got 100 oz of rub to mix up between now and friday evening

for steaks and burgers, I like famous daves steak and burger seasoning - nothing crazy, just a few basic to add a little to the beef.

mccormicks smokehouse maple is pretty good with pork and chicken

for my own rib and butt rub - I start with equal parts smoked paprika, kosher salt, and dark brown sugar - then get to doctoring it from there.
pepper, garlic, ground mustard, chili powder, cumin, thyme, curry, oregano, cayenne, ......play with whatever you got and see what floats your boat

Funny this thread started I'm planning a small whole hog bbq for my sons graduation on the 12th.

My rub recipe always starts with paprika, salt, brown sugar and lots of garlic and onion powders. If I have them I'll grind dried chilies and add them also. I have rubbed yellow mustard of pork butts then added rub also done dry rub.

What I would kill for is a really really great bbq bean recipe. Or a great vinegar based sauce.

NV - my vinegar base sauce is 1/2 cup of cider vinegar and 1/2 cup of white
then I add 2 TBSP each of - brown sugar, bbq spice (from above), crushed red pepper, garlic powder

then i like a couple squirts of hot sauce - tabasco, franks, TX Pete, whatever your flavor is

and then you go to doctoring it from there

my wife likes it a little sweeter, so I'll add some honey or more brown sugar
i go heavier on the spice, adding black pepper, cayenne, or my home grown dried and powdered jalapenos

if you want it thicker - go with mustard or molasses - if you put ketchup in it, I'll come out there and catch all your fur-critters!
if you go molasses - cut some of the brown sugar

mix it up early and shake often - it will keep darn near forever and only gets better with age.

what I will do sometimes is mix it up with a thick store sauce for glazing ribs
