Ok I know some will disagree but If I send X amount of fur for X amount of dollars that would be my average. Can't spend what "might" be paid to you.
If I send 100 coons and 70 of them sale for 700 bucks my average isn't 10.00 it is 7.00. You trapped said number of coon . You have said amount of monies in your pocket .But it makes some feel better to hope they might sell. But in coonmans case maybe it doesn't make him feel better LOL

Yes from a liquidity aspect you are correct. You received however $10 per item sold. You have 30 pelts as unsold assets that may or may not be worth more or less than the items sold.
If you put 50 K in a retirement account and draw out $10 in one year does that mean the other 40 plus earnings has no value?

I guess what I mean is I don't understand why someone would send 100 coons and only sell 40 or so. Yes let's say they average 20 bucks a piece. That's 800 bucks minus commission. You can take it to groeny or a country buyer for 15.00 No commission and sell them all. 1500 in your pocket. No savings account(maybe)

confused ??????

It's definitely good to experiment a little. In my experimentation I definitely did better at NAFA. There is some unsold BuyBacks or whatever. But the difference in money was worth it to me. Just saying. I think they're going to private treaty a lot of the BuyBacks this time. That'll be fine with me this time

So what country buyer Is paying a $15.00 average? There Is no such thing as a $15.00 average In the coon hide world.

It's not ideal but you are trusting that the value will hold. Same as if you owned a retail store, you don't drown in your beer every night because you have 100,000+ inventory and you only sold 1000 worth today. If you need money now, obviously the international fur auctions isn't the best place to send your fur.

To be honest I don't send 100 to the auction with the idea that only a small percentage will be sold. Over time they probably all will and I shipped my fur last fall and all my fur is now sold.
I have sold to local buyers all to some of my fur for 38 years so I know that drill as well. I have stood in the lines to see 50 coons in the grease with 35 at $7 and 15 no value, so to me that is not even as good a situation other than the guy did not put the time into putting them up.

That's a true average when you count the zero's in your average.
Imo the way you would tell someone your average is ,,,,
On the ONE'S that sold I averaged ×××
And everytime you sell more your average either goes up or down until all sold ...

To get a "true" average wouldn't you have to average every coon you have ever sold. In that case I would have to go back 50 years. Let's just say I did OK for the coons I sold considering the coons I sent, and the current market. smile

Everything I have shipped to NAFA has eventually sold, so you can get an overall average, just might take a while

Do you guys figure in snapped traps as a "0" as well as all the junk that doesn't come home? To get a true average? So far there is a true average, lifetime average, selective average, overall average, average before commission, after commission, average before expense, after, I am getting dizzy. lol

X2, I'm sure those3-4 pull outs last fall and winter whacked my average!

So, coonman and me sort of switched positions from last auction. He has said that his "best stuff" was held back during NAFA's first sale and end with a approx $12+ ave on what was SOLD whereas mine was $17+. I knew my ave was going to be lower with this sale because I had more smaller coon involved but generally the prices held with 5-20% of the pre-sale evaluations. Nothing went higher than the pre-sale number. I sent a total of 39 coon to NAFA and still have 6 left there, 2 W NC and 4 WSH. If they sell in the late summer sale, I'm sure my ave will drop a bit more. I did 23% better on the kid's mid-range western semi-heavy yote over the pre-sale eval. I got a good trade on that one on what I paid him wink
