Looking to upgrade from my Walmart Shakespeare ultralight combo. The rods are great, but the reel gets some wobble in it after a while that I don't like. So what do my friends on trapperman like to use? Not asking for bait or anything, just a good rod and reel combo. Thanks.

I like my Saint Croix rod and pfluger presidential reel so far I've used it mostly for walleye fishing but I'd bet it would handle any trout I can catch while fishing the Bighhorn river. Allan

Bout 10 years or so ago my buddy got me into fishing for salmon and steelhead in Ny. They were using pfluger reels. I started buying the supreme model. Probably more than you need but they have not let me down.
The rod is going to be dependent on what type of trout you are fishing for and what type of fishing you do. For our little trout around here I use a 5'6" light/ultra light rod. For steelhead I use a 9' light for bottom bouncing or a 10' 6" light action for bobbers with floating line.

Those Cherrywood rods Wal Mart sells are pretty good for $25. I've got several of them. Just get you a decent spin reel and will be good to go.

I'm mostly fishing the small Georgia trout streams, nothing trophy sized down here haha. I've heard good things about the pfluger president reels, but I heard the new ones are kinda junky.
