Is it worth the membership and do you really save more then just going to wally world? The wife and I are thinking about doing our shopping once a month to try to save money.
What has been your experience shopping there? Thanks for the help. Sarge

Sarge, I have Costco. Some stuff is worth the membership fee. My truck loves the gas too. I mainly buy tp, paper towels, bottles of water, other bulk items as needed and their hard liquor prices are hard to beat.

As long as you don't mind buying bigger quantities its well worth it on MOST items. We have a Sams membership and it pays for itself in no time. Bought tires for my truck and not only were they cheaper than any other place i looked but i also got $80 off for buying 4 tires at once. We also have a sams credit card and earn cash back on all purchases we make. Also get five cent (?) discount off their fuel which is usually five cents cheaper than anywhere else. We typically go there on e maybe twice a month. Worth it for my family for sure.

We do costco. Feul, paper products, certain food items make it worth it for us. Family splits the coat and have a business membership.

It is not cheaper, they make you think you are saving by buying in bulk, but you really don't. Go and compare the prices find out for yourself, I have. Usually, you can find really good sales at Smiths, Albertsons or any local grocery store that are a far better deal. Gas is cheaper. Maybe if you gas up there all the time, and there are no other comparable gas stations, it may be worth it.

I live 40 miles away. So buying gas all the time is out . What about their meat prices and dry good, can goods?

Some stuff is not cheaper and better deals can be had elsewhere like meats and veggies. Example: Sprouts fruit, right now local Sprouts has natural ground beef for $1.99lb for the past month they've had seedless watermelons for $2.99.
But 40 16.9oz water bottles at Costco here is $2.99 much more and cheaper than any other place I've found. Their alcohol prices are really good and usually are 1.5 liters for less than the usual price of a fifth. Some back I bought a fifth of Basil Hayden's at Costco for $32 everywhere else was at least $40. Their brand of ready to drink margaritas is $6.99 for 2 bottles.
It really just depends what is needed and used often. I'm very cautious with money.

You can't buy hard liquor from a warehouse retailer in Virginia. You have to go to the ABC store for that.

Costco is anti 2nd. Just say'in. I however do have a Costco card. It's the only thing relatively close to me and that's 45 minutes away.

My family pays $100/year for "Plus" membership in Sam's Club. We get enough "plus" discounts and bonuses to a little more than to cover the $100 membership. We shop there about once a month, mostly for bulk items. We don't buy bulk quantities that go to waste. Sam's Club is usually cheaper but certainly not always. Other grocery 'super' markets within 10 miles include Fred Meyer and Smiths, both owned by Kroger, Albertsons, Walmart, and Winco. Last month I saved $30 at Sam's Club on a top quality replacement battery for my pickup. I know - I shopped around.

Sam's Club here: Keep renewing for the gas price break, typically $.20/.25 per gal. Always check the Clearance rack for bargains, but you gotta be ready to buy large quantity's of something, but I find it works out because it's something you need regularly. Meat/fresh produce, I can do lot's better shopping around, sales etc. Just bought 3 cases of TP cheap, and that's something that gets used daily. Their Bakery goods are superb.

I wish we had one closer to get gas. But the nearest is 40 miles. I will have to rethink this over. Might just have to become a coupon king. Sarge

My brother's wife and daughter are Costco addicts. Garage is full of excess crap they'll never use. Funny/sad to see it when I visited.

Makes it easy for them to eat too much as well. I could see it for some staples and the gas, and their rib eyes are always good. Definitely a good thing for some businesses though.

love sams club, I have the plus membership as well. About once a year we get a $80-$120 kickback from what we bought thru the year. So the membership is really free. I buy a lot of
items for my work though that helps build the points/$$$ like TP, paper towels, office supplies, etc. You can't beat a lot of items for price and quality and you get quality stuff you may not always get
at places like Aldis.
