I have been working on plans for a poker/shooting competition between some of the nearby camps and ours. I am thinking of five shooting stations. Shotgun, rifles, pistols, muzzle loader and archery. Three shots at each station and also you take an envelope from a box at each station that contains a card for your poker hand. You would have to have a four person team and more than one shooter. Targets scored at the end and worth half your total the other half would be your poker hand. The cards are sealed in envelopes you can’t see them or open them until the end of the shooting competition. Then have a cookout. Anybody else do anything like this at your place?

I have never been a fan of mixing games of chance with skill competition. If you want to have both then give separate prizes for each.

Sounds awesome, do it.

Never have seen anything like this done, but it sure sounds like a great time.

The last thing I want when I'm at camp is to get involved in some kind of competition.

the only time I camp with other people is a trappers convention

Also have a axe throw and if needed slingshot for tie breaker.

I try not to camp with others when I hunt. I do more than try when trapping. I'll pack up and move. Big game out west you have to pack in mule or horseback now to not have "neighbors". I still don't understand your post. How will you have time for a competition? Bound to be some folks there with tags unfilled. Don't see people camp much here in KS for hunting. Some out of state guys and some who hunt far from home rent a motel but don't often see anybody camping. Pretty much all private property here. You cant just go anyplace you want.

I don’t think he’s hunting while doing this competition. Just getting some other nearby camps to participate during the off season for fun.

I was thinking youth camps like 4H or similar. Still sounds like a great idea that could also be used at Trapper gatherings.
I can't judge an opinion against hunting camps as there are different styles and methods from East to West.

Danny I am talking about the middle of summer not hunting or trapping. Just getting together in the off season with neighboring camps. I hunt with three other guys out of our camp. We go in before daylight and come out after dark. We all go our separate ways. I trap alone. So hunting and trapping season are closed when doing the competition

I think an axe throw and a knife throw would be good too.

Maybe the term cabin instead of camp would clear up the confusion.

That’s right a camp (cabin) in the woods. Sorry for the confusion.

Up here, you'll rarely hear someone refer to their camp as a cabin, even if it's made out of logs.

I just got home from "CAMP" and I'll be going "up to camp" in about two weeks.

We call ours a cabin, but our neighbors in Pa. ask us when are we coming to camp!

That's a nice looking camp, looks cozy. Is that in the big woods or near town?
