Thinking abut adding a small truck to the family fleet. I was thinking Tacoma as I know they have a great reputation for long term reliability but just found a Nissan Frontier at a decent price with some of the extras that I wanted (topper, all terrain tires, etc). Are people getting the same total miles out of the Nissans as they do toyotas? Say 300K + miles.

Any major issues to look for in the Nissan's?

The things that attracted me to a Toyota was the resale value and the Off Road traction package with crawl control and locking rear axle! What scares me today is the high tech flood of stuff I could never fix on it, a guy almost has to trade it in when it goes out of warrantee or buy that crazy 6 different extended warranty coverage plans.

My Son drove both. The Tacoma was a dog and the Nissan ran like a raped ape. He needs the horsepower so he went with the Nissan and hasn't been sorry yet.

I have been driving a Frontier for work for a couple months. I like the way it drives and it seems to have decent power. Its a 2018 and it has a lot of squeaks and noises already. The turning radius is absolutely horrible. Gas mileage is terrible as well (15-16) average. I cant compare it to a Tacoma, but it has a cheap feel to it, possibly explaining why they are priced considerably cheaper than a Tacoma. That being said, I wouldnt hate having one to trap out of, if it was priced right. Looking online, i do not see nearly as many high mileage Frontiers for sale as Tacomas.

X2. On my 3rd Taco TRD 4x4, all lwb 4 dr models. Didn't wear the first 2 out, let them go because the trade-in value is excellent at 50-60,000 miles. 20-22mpg highway trip miles, 16.5-18 otherwise, including lots of trap line miles, no problems.

I had a Nissan frontier 4x4. 4 cyl 5 speed man. That thing forever soured me on Nissan's. I bought my first Tacoma a year ago and could not be happier.

I wonder if Nissan makes a off-duty model of the Frontier

Nissans suck.....I have broken more 10mm bolts on them cars....from rust...even on a 2 year old car. I’ve been doing Autobody/ Collision work since 1976. The Toyota’s have a thread locker or sealant on their bolts...nice to remove a fender without busting off bolts..a bettah built car in my opinion.

The best Frontier I ever owned was a 1984, the two since not so good. One was junked due to not being able to get a replacement engine (1998)
In hindsight after the 84 I should of went with Toyotas as a 22r can be found anywhere as well as other major parts if needed.

My son does body work. You could not run fast enough to give him a Nissan.

You get what you pay for. Toyotas are more money but Nissans are garbage. Seen it 1st hand.

I prefer Toyota. Probably both are decent trucks. The Tacoma will shine when and if you sale it.

I've owned a Frontier and a Titan. The Titan was one of the most trouble-free vehicles I've ever owned, the Frontier, not so much. A missionary buddy of mine mentioned all of the Toyota Tacoma trucks bouncing around Central America that refuse to die. I think he made a good point.

First thing that comes to mind is resale value. I don't even have to mention which brand.
