Looks like he made his money on 3 dollar coon,Swamp. Your cat and otter price looks to be in line with the market. Fur finish on animals can vary from year to year.

Yeah....he may have made .50 per pelt on those $3 coons....lol. Based on Central coon sales recently. But Gary says they can move as many of these low grade coons as he can buy....probably cause they're buying them so cheap.Coons here are short nap and dont get big either. In over 40 years of trapping I have caught and seen less than a dozen or so coons that would go 4x. Never saw a 5x. 3x is not the norm either. If it wasnt for a legal meat market in a nearby state the current sale price would be rough to accept. I high-graded coons in the field too.....mediums and smalls along with scab/scar necks out.

From a distance they look good...just not northern quality up close..lol. Working with what we got down here....lol. Market depression hits us first and leaves us last down south.

I sold 6 cats at a $328 average. 2 B bellies and 4 C bellies. None of the higher graded cats sold.

When fur is in great demand and a buyer can see that they can do with a lower class and still sell product at the demand, most times for production to make best of the expenditure they will buy lower class inventory and make A better return on the expense. It’s done in most any kind of demand verse’s need production,,,the problem with fur is the lag time of harvest and production need for the next season,,a very large reason for watching trends of buying economies using fur for our dollar return in making harvests the next year !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

Any coon pic with palmetto's in the background is gonna be a little rough. Either way, nice work. I try and think of the overall population reduction benefits during the low market times. Makes it sting not so bad, I guess?

This reminds me of a thread on here a few years back, "who establishes the market". Is it the auctions, or the country buyers, or the end user? I have to think that as long as there is a country buyer providing an endless supply of low grade coon this cheap it will be hard to see much advancement in the market. Maybe we have finally answered that question.

I averaged $217 on the 4 cats out of 11 that were sent up. My better cats were held over. I think FHA didn't do themselves or the sellers any favors by consistently moving their cat sales to a week after NAFA for every sale this year. I can't figure that one out. NAFA didn't fare much better. The harsh reality is even the cat market is struggling top to bottom.
